a gripping, compelling read
This is a book about a sled dog's harsh survival in the frozen north. I had to read this for my english classes and i really enjoyed it. Basically, it's about a somewhat spoiled dog named Buck, who gets kidnapped and taken to the snowy wilderness of alaska during the ...

The Call of the Wild (Man)
'The Call of the Wild' (1903) is generally considered London's best work. London himself was a wild man: drunk heavily, whored, jailed, tramped, poached, prospected - the bastard son of a wandering Irish astrologer. The novel is London's reconciliation with his own ...

Intense and seaching
I wish I had read this book in high school. I didn't get to it until much later in life. London knows his subject and in this case it's the conflict of man versus man, philosophy versus philosophy wrapped in a case of a diabolical captain against a gentleman. The ...

An American Master...
You can't lump too many people into the same sphere with London...Twain, Poe, and Lovecraft are a few that spring to mind. He's an American Titan, and he gets the fawning treatment you'd expect from the Library of America in this exemplary, extraordinary, ...

Title
This is actually a very good book to have. It was bought for a class in English Literature, but it has some good stories in it. I would be willing to read some of the non-assigned stories from this book. Best part- its a small book.

Meat on them bones
Wow. I must have read Call of the Wild earlier in life when I liked "books about dogs." I read it again recently in a group discussing "children's books." To me a truly great "children's book" is one that speaks to any other age, too. This one sure speaks to at age ...

Successful Gift
I purchased this for my father along with a selection of other audio books. He reported that he liked this one the best. Apparently the selection of stories was excellent, and the reading was clear and expressive.

A Wonderful Read
This a great book to read because I remember reading it as a kid. I liked the book so much that I read it twice. There was also a dog that I used to have that kind of looked like the main character, but he was a huskey. Also, I would recommend this book to anyone.

Kill or Be Killed
One may not like Jack London as a person because of his strong socialist, and social darwinist, beliefs. But one can't deny his brilliance when it comes to his dog/wolf stories. "Call of the Wild", "White Fang", "Batard", and others are simply stunning. The brutalities ...

The Road
Good collection of stories from the road. London delivers. Don't expect Call of the Wild or White Fang, the subject is different. Mainly stories from life as a "hobo".

Jack London's Finest Fictional Work (?)
These three stories are amongst London's best fictional works- some say they *are* the best, especially, "The Call of the Wild" and "White Fang", it all depends on one's taste, of course, but rest assured, these stories are gripping and the intrigue of their moving ...

Jack London - Part Prolific Novelist, Part Wolf
After reading "The Call of the Wild" or more precisely, after being transferred to another place and time, or even more to the point after being totally submerged into the being of this animal, I'm left completely awe-struck by London's work. To see what Buck saw, ...

Buck realizes his potential
Gold was found in Alaska, the rush to obtain it required a strong constitution and many dogs to do the work that horses usually did in the states. The environment bread harsh attitudes. Also in the testing of ones mettle one finds their true potential. Buck (a dog ...
