The Impulse Factor: Why Some of Us Play It Safe and Others Risk It All Nick Tasler
Fireside, 2008
Wow! A fascinating book I read a piece in Marie Claire about this book and had to buy a copy. It's really great! In short, the premise of the book is to help you understand why some people tend to play it safe and others tend to risk it all, including:
~ Risk-taking is chemical. 25% of ...

Predictably Irrational: The Hidden Forces That Shape Our Decisions Dan Ariely
HarperCollins, 2008
Reality is absolutely relative. At first glance, the title of Dan Ariely's book seems to be an oxymoron. (It certainly catches one's attention.) Can irrational thought and/or behavior be predicted? Perhaps if it is repetitive? (The judgment and behavior of at least some people can be repetitive and ...

Freedomnomics: Why the Free Market Works and Other Half-Baked Theories Don't John R. Lott Jr.
Regnery Publishing, Inc., 2007
Informative One thing I like about Prof. Lott is that he does not try and be funny. I've read other books by economists and they try to be cute or witty or funny, but jokes usually fall flat.
Prof. Lott sticks to the facts and draws conclusions, and I appreciate that.
