interesting
This cd has a lot to offer in the way of variety, however the mostly all organ music gets a little numbing. The song choices are wonderful, and I love listening to it once in awhile, but not my favorite funeral music cd.

Very classic
This is a wonderful and very comprehensive survey of the music of this turbulent but creative period.

Scary work looks ahead to Bartok as much as back to Strauss
Most operas deal with the creation and rupture of unions. 'Der Ferne Klang' opens with a rupture in its opening scene, and an absence, as Fritz, a playwright, leaves his fiancee Grete to seek the mysterious 'ferne klang' (distant sound) that will enable him to create ...

A Great Intro to Some of Opera's Orchestral Moments
Some of opera's (or related stage works') best orchestral moments are included on this CD. Starting with the joyous Prelude to Carmen and ending with the tour de force of the Dance of the Hours, this CD has it covered, at least as well as any near eighty minute CD ...

Very Informative and Enjoyable
Whether you're a music novice or pro, "The instruments of the Orchestra" is a very worthwhile purchase. The 7 CDs, with a total of 8 hours, are expertly narrated by Jeremy Siepmann. He's a great speaker, very much like the late Leonard Bernstein was. Mr. Siepmann takes ...

Stunningly Gorgeous Revival Of A Forgotten Classical Ballet!
You might not realize it by looking at the cover of this DVD(that scene is from a dream sequence) but this ballet has some of the most beautiful costumes and scenery you will ever see in any ballet. The costumes and sets were designed by the famous fashion designer, ...

I am disappointed. It does not have subtitle. Had I known before hand I would not have ordered it.

Wonderful introduction to opera
More than just a promotional sampler, the Naxos (8.555037-38) contains not only 2 CDs crammed with 39 excerpts from that company's seemingly bottomless catalogue, but also a 762 page book. The text offers plot summaries of almost every important opera and many of far ...

A great deal for the price
Regardless of the comments of the reviewer above me (look up...if you dare) I must say this is a surprisingly good set of Beethoven's complete symphonies. Its true (as my above reviewer states) that some of the symphonies are taken at a fast tempo, but they are hardly ...

Delightful... except for the last track.
I was explaining to a friend once, "Why do we teach our children to love insipid music? They only love Barney because we exposed them to it." In response, my friend bought this for me as a shower gift, and I love it. Mozart is excellent for little developing brains, ...

An excellent CD of Nutcracker/Swan Lake excerpts
I bought this record when I was young, more than 15 years ago. But after a month or two a deep cut in it made it not playable anymore (it was the time we all took as true the message that CD were indestructible). Then I listened to several versions of Nutcracker and ...

Liszt Crazy!
This CD is fantastic. First, the music is great. Les Preludes is especially good music. Also, they are all short works (about 15-20 minutes each) . . . which is important for a busy guy like me. I don't have 1 1/2 hours to listen to one Mahler symphony. Recording ...

Superbly played Schubert masterpieces.
