Moving but not a treatise on Heaven

Pulling at many of the heart strings that surround our very human existence, this book is a moving testimony about one man's experience with a near death experience and heaven. Yet this is only the tip of the iceberg. This book is not a theologic treatise on heaven or really even salvation. What you get is a man's testimony about how through dying and experiencing heaven, his life was changed for the better. This is despite all the hardship, pain, depression, and heartache, Don Piper experienced.

This book is more about being joyful in all situations and reaching out to others. Trusting in a God who has a plan for us. I for one was moved by many of the stories Don Piper tells us about how he interacts with many people who are sufferred as he did, facing death, or trying to comprehend the death of a loved one.

While he doesn't go into the details of Heaven, he speaks authoritatively that Heaven is real. He may have the t-shirt but I don't find him jumping up and down about it in a bragadoccio manner. Instead of spinning a tale of Heaven, he tends to go into the beauty of relationship and the mysterious ways that people come in and out of your life. There is a sense of purpose that just seems to coincidental to be random.

This is a great book of a man's testimony about his relationship with God. He was brought through death's gate and came back to proclaim about the hope he has.

Well worth reading

Although this book was not exactly what I thought it was, I enjoyed it just the same. The author's experience with visiting heaven is fascinating and lovely. Most of the book however, is actually about his recovery and discoveries post his heavenly experience, which makes sense since his time in heaven was reportedly quite short. His experience in heaven changed him, and gave hope to others who have lost loved ones. It also gives hope to those who are struggling with any number of life's difficulties. His story is beliveable, nicely written, and I highly recommend it.

disappointed

the story of the author's healing was truly amazing.
However his limited spiritual background shows thru.
He experienced only what he expected except for the fact that he never saw Jesus. Absence of the body, presence of the Lord. Betty Eadie's experience in Embraced by the Light was far more profound.
