GREAT BOOK - TERRIBLE ENDING
I loved this book, it was a real page-turner, right up until the end. I never saw it coming and found it a terrible ending for such a fascinating story. I found Patrick a very likeable character and was hoping that everything would work out for him. But the last few pages of the book just left me with my mouth hanging open. I wish I hadn't read the ending, I had a much better ending in mind with Patrick and Eva having 12 children and living happily ever after.
Very good book that keeps you guessing
I found this book to be very good and it holds your interest all the way through. While the ending may be disappointing, it is just the final twist in a book that keeps you guessing all the way through. If you start to read it, you wont be able to put it down...

Interesting read... but way too many coincidences
This is my second Grisham book and just like the first one i read (The Rainmaker) it seems to me everything works out way too easily for his main characters... for them nothing seems to go wrong, everything falls into place way too easily; which makes them kinda implausible...
This book starts with a very interesting story; they've just found Patrick in Brazil, a lawyer and ex-
partner
of a firm in the USA who is accused of having stolen 90 million dollars and murdered a person in the process. The books draws you in with the interest of finding out how this character pulled this off and, more than just how, why he did it.
All in all, i think it's a good book; even though after a while you can easily guess what to expect next..... the only thing that was a shocker was the ending... at least not everything happened the way Patrick planned it....

Good, but not his best
For some reason I found myself struggling with this one. It did not suck me in like his other novels. And, as others said, the ending was a bit of a disappointment (but not nearly as much as some people seem to think. gimme a break.) At the end of the day, it is still J.G., and still a pretty thilling ride, and I'm a big fan, so I give it 4.
One of Grisham's best, but....
This was a very entertaining read with great twists and turns. Some have called the story unbelievable, which it may be, but its Fiction so I had no problem with Patrick's many talents. This is definitly one of Grisham's best, but, as many have reported one here, the ending is terrible. You almost wish you had just left the last few pages to your imagination instead of being thrown into this terrible ending to a fabulous story.
