There is a great warmth in Cohen's playing which never ebbs. It is very reminiscent of the same engaging charm which characterized the playing of Artur Rubinstein and Benno Moiseiwitsch at their very best. For once, the Brahms variations emerge as a joy listen to, as opposed to the all too familiar chore we hear from many others.
This is a must-have recording at any price, but for budget you simply cannot go wrong. With any luck, we have a lot to look forward to from Mr. Cohen and he has already contributed an excellent volume to the Naxos Liszt series.
