It was cool that he had the guy chase his illigetimate daughter down who inherits his fortune. IT was sad in the end when she died and the village didn't welcome the mesenger back. (Forget his name now, sorry.)

Just minutes after leaving billions to his thoroughly rotten children and just seconds after disinheriting them, Troy Phelan dives out a high rise window. While the children are planning how to spend their unearned wealth, Phelan's lawyers are quietly enacting and preparing to enforce the terms of the new will that the children know nothing of. Part of fulfilling Phelan's last wishes entails a trip to one of the remotest corners of the world, Brazil's Pantanal. A recovering alcoholic and lawyer, Nate O'Reilly is selected for this mission. At the same time, Phelan's children find out that new will leaves them out and they begin plotting a will challenge. A successful defense depends on the results of Nate O'Reilly's trip.

This book reads, as do many of Mr. Grisham's works, like a movie script. Fast pace, quick dialog and lots of cliffhangers. If you're like me, you'll breeze through this book in a few short days. Don't, however, expect any great insight. You may also be surprised at the relatively scant time spent in the courtroom in this book. While we do get a few scenes of snappy high-priced lawyering, most of the time we're mired deep in a swamp. The change of scenery and reduced obsession with elite attorneys, in my opinion, makes this book better than most of Mr. Grisham's works. Others may find the Grisham name on this book tortiously deceptive.

Not his best

I've read many Grisham novels and The Testament was not his best. However, it was still a pretty entertaining read.

While the premise sounded promising- a billionaire dies while his family fights over the money he left behind...we're thrown into a story where a lawyer travels to the remotest areas of Brazil in order to find a long lost daughter. Still sounded interesting, however it sort of played out a little less than exciting. At points it sort of dragged. But towards the end it did pick up again.

Overall it was ok, not my favorite of his. But, I did enjoy the story and the moral Grisham was trying to convey. Good ending too.
