wonderful nonsense...
A wonderful piece of nonsense about nothing, starring three complete losers, and a refreshing dose of sanity in a world "awash in solemn nonsense" ...this movie is nonsense, makes no pretension to be anything else, and yet is a masterpiece. Like many other Coen brothers works, it is beautifully cast, well photographed, tightly scripted, and just a wonderful antidote for a day or week of todays serious world. I enjoy it more every time I watch it. Well, so much for the movie. This book also captures the proper note of insouciance and irreverence and accurately mirrors those of us who
have
made this a cult classic. A nice companion piece.

A good book- and thorough.
I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. I was a little afraid that it wouldn't add anything to the experience of watching, loving and living The
Big
Lebowski
. No fear necessary- it did.
While the liberal use of quotations from the movie peppered throughout the text at first felt slightly forced (maybe like in this here review), they felt smoother and more seamless as I read- dare I say they really tied the book together. I realize now that one cannot
have
a discussion about the movie without using lines of dialogue- try it, I dare
you
.
There are bits of information related to the movie scattered throughout the text- for example, a short history of the man who was behind making a record about whale sounds, and one about the Dick Nixon poster above The Dude's bar. Taken independently of the movie, they're vaguely interesting. In the context of the film, though, they are fascinating.
I'm still waiting for a leather-bound volume of critical analysis and deconstruction of The Big Lebowski, but IAL,YAL does include a quasi-bibliography of academic papers about the movie. I need to find out how to get some of those.
The interviews with the actors and inspirations for the characters are all entertaining and insightful. In fact, at one point I wondered if knowing the true stories behind some of the movie's key events would detract from the magical world of the film. Ultimately, it adds to the magic to know that the essence of the Dude walks among us. I don't know about you, but I take comfort in that.

The Achievers Guide
This is a great book for any
Lebowski
Fan, it is all interviews with anyone who has anypart in the movie. Not only all the celebs like, Bridges, Goodman, Turturro, It has tons of other peoples stories Including Jeff "The Dude" Dowd, and the real
life
inspirations for Walter, the real Larry Sellers, Jesus's Bowling team partner and many more. I am not a
big
reader and I couldnt put this book down.
This is no revised 2nd draft
The plot was ridiculous, but the entire experience was a natural, zesty enterprise.
Any Lewbowski fan will absolutely love this book. Don't both reading any more reviews, just get it.

A must for any true achiever
It's amazing. This is one of the funniest flicks I've ever seen--though definitely a guy flick, or as Goodman calls it, "a buddy flick." It didn't do terribly well at the box office but has developed a real cult following. And the authors of this volume sponsor "
Lebowski
fests" all over the country.
Why a guy flick? Well, the only positive comment I've heard from a woman--aside from a few they interviewed for the book--is that the wife of someone I talked with said she really likes one quote. And quotes there are! The authors interview fans all over the place and each has his or her favorite quote. (I
have
one too, thought it's not something Amazon.com would be likely to include on this page.)_
What
do
you
want, interviews with the stars? Even the guy who played Larry, or the clerk in the Ralph's store? Interviews, yes, with fans? Interviews with those on whom the story is allegedly based? A detailed, second-by-second breakdown of the film's activities? This has 'em all.
Now, don't get it for someone who didn't like the film. It'll be burned at the stake--or wherever--in a heartbeat. But for the Lebowskifile, it's a work of art. (Indeed, I'm sending my copy to a good friend who introduced me to this flick. He'll never forgive me...
Enjoy it!
