Beautiful Music from a Beautiful Woman.

This album is by far the best collection of Ms Brightman's music. Anyone who enjoys music will enjoy this album. Her voice has an angelic quality. I highly recommend this CD.

Sarah Brightman is a Classic

Sarah Brightman is at her best in "Classics." From Dvorak's "Rusalka" (Opera B.203) to Beethoven's haunting Op 52, slow movement (Symphony #7), Brightman's voice and lyrical style are a joy. I particularly enjoy her performances of Schubert's Ave Maria and Andrew Lloyd Weber's Pie Jesu. This is a great add to my collection of serious music.

Not The Best - Not the Worst - From Sarah Brightman

After purchasing this CD for my iPod for iTunes, I must say that I'm a little bit dissapointed. 7 new recordings and 8 old ones, ones that I already happen to have. I do like the fact that they're all on one CD! Some of her new recordings, including, "Ave Maria", "Winter Light", "Alhambra", "Dans La Nuit", and the new recording of "Pie Jesu" are just too breathy for my taste. It seems as with every changing CD, Sarah's voice changes. I'm not saying that the result is bad; it actually gives the songs more of a dream like quality, but I'm used to the younger, more Andrew Lloyd-Webber integrated Sarah. Scooping continually occurs in new recordings of "O Mio Babbino Caro", and "Nessun Dorma". In some tracks from La Luna, like "Figlio Perduto", Sarah's voice is TOTALLY dominated by harmonizing recordings that sound almost mechanical.

OVERALLY - The new songs sound O.K. and the old recordings are just as good as they were back then. This album is still a great buy!

CLASSIC Work from Sarah Brightman!

THIS CD ROCKS! I don't currently own the CD, but I will be purchasing it soon. "Ave Maria" by Schubert is a great piece. Whenever I sing it to my cat, he falls asleep. I don't know if it's from the beauty of the song or if he justs wants me to think he's sleeping so I shut up. "La Wally" is an amazing piece, and also has a spinoff called "A Question of Honour". I will tell you that Brightman has a habit of "scooping" into her high notes, and this happens a good deal in this piece. It's only irritating to listen to it when she's trying to hit a note above her range. Anyways, it is still a beautiful piece. "Winter Light" is a nice piece, but is a little too breathy. Has anyone noticed that there's been a major change in Sarah's voice? I'm not critisizing it, but it's a major change from a while ago. "Anytime, Anywhere" is awesome! I'm not totally into the foreign language-English type song, but this works well. "Alhambra" is also a nice piece, still sort of breathy. "Lascia Ch'io Pianga" is from her successful album "Eden", and Handel did an awesome job writing the orchestrations. The piece is only meant for low altos or tenors, but Brightman pulls it off. "Dans La Nuit" is based on Chopin's "Etude in E major". Some more breathiness, but it's still good. "Serenade/How Fair is this Place" is a fairly descent piece, but Brightman's voice has some weird effects as she hits higher notes. "O Mio Babbino Caro" is awesome, and you have to love Puccini for writing it. It has beautiful orchestra work and soaring vocals. Brightman makes it work, with scooping into her high note. Oh well, it's still amazing to listen to. Charlotte Church does the song a little more justice, for she doesn't slide into the notes, but hits them on the head like a hammer to a nail. The album, "La Luna" has a gentle feeling, just like the moon. This piece is beautiful, smooth, connected, and no sliding. The new recording of "Pie Jesu" is much better than the original. The 1st recording showed too much vibrato, and this one is more gentle. It's a little bit more breathy, but much more easy to listen to that the 1st version. "Figlio Perduto" is a piece from "La Luna", and it's nice to listen to. The next piece is "Nessun Dorma". It's meant for a low alto or tenor, but Brightman pulls it off once more. It's beautiful! There is no one I know that can hold that extrememly high note at the end longer than Sarah! "Bailero" is beautiful and connected, and is from "Eden". The last piece, and obviously the best, is "Time To Say Goodbye". It's the solo version, which was previously unavaliable. I had it from "Time to Say Goodbye". It was a four-track CD, and the piece rocks.

THIS ALBUM IS GREAT! I strongly encourage you to buy this album.. You'll be glad that you did!

Nice Cover

I'm a heterosexual guy who's not an opera aficionado - I only mention these facts because I seem to be right in the bull's-eye of the target market for this product. Sarah B. has a nice voice and she's pretty. Both of these are featured prominently on this CD. The cover and several pages in the insert are devoted to what must have been a very long and expensive photo shoot (and Photoshop) of a semi-clad Sarah looking marvelous. (The CD also comes with a flyer so you can buy various Brightman "Classics" apparel - perhaps not for the heterosexual male).

As far as the music goes: not bad, not great. I don't claim to have the most discerning ears for this sort of music, but everything was OK by me. However, the pieces on the CD with which I'm somewhat familiar, such as "O Mio Babbino Caro," didn't sound quite as good as other versions I've heard (and that includes by Charlotte Church, not just opera stars). Also, the solo version of "Time to Say Goodbye" didn't sound nearly as good to me as the duet with Bocelli.

In sum, there were 3-4 songs I liked enough to rip to MP3s - which is enough so that I didn't feel ripped myself...
