Bleak, beautiful, a real gripper!

This S. Western is unique in it's conclusion making it a standout. I got it as a gift for my boyfriend and he loved it. Klaus Kinski is great as the sinister villain.

The Music and Movie will stay with you forever

This is a very very flawed (read other reviews) movie but it makes a very important "statement" in asking the question to the viewer of who the good guys and bad guys are, and that not always the good guys win. The musical score is the best in the business - almost as good as Morricone's Companeros. A year after watching this something you see connects to the movie and the music pops in your head . . . and does not dissipate for a while!
This is not a movie to sit idly by and enjoy - this is a movie to WATCH and figure out - and to think about what's happening. Life isn't fair. Neither is this movie. But that's reality, folks. Again, a sloppy movie but one that really makes you think. If you want vapid entertainment - avoid at all costs. If you want a poke in the brain, watch this and see what thoughts develop.
If I were on a deserted island, I'd take Companeros as a wild and crazy funny Wetern, and this as a more somber and thought provoking one.
So, if you're up for the challenge - GO FOR IT! Understand the flaws, but enjoy the "big picture" of the movie.

KLAUS KINSKY AND HIS BOUNTY HUNTERS IN A GREAT AND POWERFULL GUNFIGHT,
AND SAVES THE DAY.THIS AS MENTIONED BY ALEX COX IN THE COMMENTARY,WAS
THOUGHT TO BE LOST ALL THIS TIME,TILL DISCOVER'D AND WAS PUT IN AS A
EXTRA BONOUS FEATURE.WONDERFULL JOB ON THIS AND A WONDERFUL
RESTORATION BY WILD EAST PRODUCTIONS.ANYBODY WHO LOVES THE SPAGHETTI

A different Western.

A very rough Spaghetti Western where Ennio Morricone's tune matches the thrilling action of the film. A great villain called Loco ( Mad, Klaus Kinski ) is a bounty hunter and his friend Charlie kill an outlaw boy at his mother's. Afterwards Charlie is celebrating this death, eating and drinking as a dirty pig, if you cannot bear this filthy scene, please look at another place. A man called Silence, he is mute,( Jean Louis Trintignant ) leaves the saloon door open, it annoys Charlie who draws his gun but Silence is faster and kills him. Thus, the good fellow Silence, the fastest gunman, is there to clash with the gruesome Loco, who has the ethics of a serpent. Who will win this contest to death ?. Corbucci adds a bit of romance played by the couple Trintignant- Vonneta Mc Gee, the last is the light brown and pretty Pauline and those scenes are the only oasis of tenderness in a cruel world of hunger, rewarding assassinations and vengeances.
This Corbucci's film was a great success due to his originality: the bad guy Kinski overcomes his enemies and the unforgettable role of the mute gunman well performed by Trintignant. Besides two different ends of the movie are offered according to the taste of the public. A Fantoma good DVD quality.

A Great Spaghetti Western

The only thing missing in this awesome wstern adventure is Clint Eastwood. But, the hero does a great job. The directing and especially the location of a snowy wildreness with a ghost town like atmosphere makes this story even better. The DVD has a neat extra with an alternat ending. The only thing bad about this alternate ending is it has no sound to it. Guess the director didn't want people dubbing it or maybe they never even added the sound.
This western has all the classic signs of Sergio Leones greats. For fans of Italian Westerns, this movie is not to be missed. Up there in the top 5 atleast. The english dubbing is also really good. All the characters in this movie are very realistic and some great acting. This one is definatly not for children. High amount of "true" violence that sets the era and explains it perfectly.
