Totally amazing
This HD DVD is amazing, the DVD versions of
Dune
are usually very dark with noisy stereo sound. This one's image and sound is crystal clear.
If you like Dune, you should have it.
Dune, In HD
Dune
is a fun movie to watch in HD, mostly because some of the special effects didn't make the transition to well, like the Duke's suspension wires are visible in some scenes.
Dune
very well written futuristic very complated plot all time good movie has something for all sci fi fans
Breathtaking
I have heard nothing but bad things about this film. Before seeing it I was under the impression that it was universally panned as a supreme failure. So, being somewhat susceptible to the influences of mass opinion, I avoided watching it. This, when David Lynch is my favorite filmmaker.
However, I finally decided to watch it with an inner thought of, "Well, can it really be THAT bad?" So I sat down to watch and from the first moments of Princess Irulan's narration was entranced. Sure, the movie is not perfect. The last third is rushed, and material had to be cut to get a reasonable length. But Lynch does NOT disappoint. The actors are great, the script is well-written, the look of the film is revolutionary, and the emotion of the book is transferred with Lynch's distinct subtlety and insight into human nature.
I honestly cannot see why this film gets so many bad reviews. It seems to me, which is typically the case, that most of these reviews are either from people who require a film adaptation to be a word-for-word interpretation of the book, or those who cannot identify with the depth of character and the complex subtext. To each her own.

Starting Point for the Gigantic Space Saga
Frank Herbert's
Dune
series is a lot more than the origianl story for 1984 David Lynch film. 2-hour theatrical version is a nice starting point if you are not that deep sci-fi fans. Now you can have the
extended
version or 3-volume TV movie version with different cast of characters.
What the movie connoisseirs must not overlook in this film is not the basic line of story which cannot be complete but the artworks, music and excellent works of acting done by the super British actors. TOTO also did the brilliant score music adding some rock vibe to the background music when the sandworms move. Artworks also are stellar blending well with modern gadget and classic European decor. Sting as an actor did brilliant acting and the last duel scene is a must-see part.
Verdict: An entertaining adaptation of Frank Herbert's huge saga.
Rating: 88 out of 100
Recommended for: Casual movie fans, TOTO and Sting fans.
