Very Well Done

A very good overview of one of the most intriquing moments in world history. Good dramatic effect, voice-overs, etc. Good blend of entertainment, history, and analysis. Includes the diaries of numerous persons: Hitler's pilot, Hitler himself, Jews, Germans, Soldiers and Eva Braun (Hitler's mistress). Lots of interesting color footage.

This DVD skillfully documents the rise and fall of Adolph Hitler and his "Third Reich." The DVD displays excellent color footage much of which has never been released before. The sound is excellent even on my portable computer with headphones and the narration by Brian Cox stays relevant and informative.

The DVD footage and narration progress chronologically throughout the DVD which runs about 71 minutes. This makes Hitler In Colour a very useful resource for students who wish to study Nazi Germany and understand the sick and twisted mind of Hitler. Hitler was almost certainly the most evil man to ever walk the planet; and the story of his rise and fall documents this very neatly.

The footage includes extra scenes from the 1936 Olympics that I have never seen anywhere else; Hitler's meeting circa 1936 with British statesman Lloyd George and the invasions of both Austria and Poland. We also see the Buchenwald concentration camp as it was being liberated; the rounding up of Jews; the subsequent rounding up of German prisoners of war and the failed battle to protect Berlin from Russian troops.

One thing disappoints me: I wish they included real life interviews with people who were alive at the time. There is a brief sound clip of Hitler's voice during an early party rally but we do not actually see any survivors being interviewed from that time on film. Unfortunately I must take off one star for that; this will be a four star review.

The DVD extras are slim but they do provide us with extra footage of "Hitler's Legacy." We see German women experiencing great angst after being violated countless times by Russian troops and we witness the horrific and brutal treatment of the Jews by the Nazis. We also see Allied troops overtaking Hitler's country home--a fine sight that is indeed!

Nevertheless, this DVD will remain a fine educational resource for students for years to come. Indeed, Hitler In Colour will educate anyone who wishes to see for themselves the atrocities of the Holocaust and Hitler's brutal regime from start to finish.

Interesting Documentary

This was a relatively interesting documentary about Hitler. The narration by Brian Cox only helps make it more gripping. At 81 minutes in length, the price on amazon is a very good deal. This was not the best documentary I have ever seen about him, but I was not disappointed. To understand why Hitler got away with everything he did, I suggest "Triumph of the Will", which shows very well how the people of Germany bought into his lies. For pure facts and a lack of propaganda, Hitler in Colour is a fine choice.
