simply beautiful

As a keyboard study it is difficult to play most of Bach's works. However, to add improvisation on top of that is incredibly difficult. That said, it was joy to absorb these interpretations from a most gifted pianist. It's obvious from listening to Gabriela that she loves the music she's playing. I will enjoy this CD for years to come.

Great compilation-

I heard Gabriela Montero speak and play on Public Radio and then went out to buy the cd. If you love piano and the creativity it can inspire, you will love this cd. The artist is brilliant and has a sense of joy in her playing.

Great Improvisation

Gabriela Montero is great! Her improvisations are so refreshing. It's great to know that there are people like her who go beyond just regurgitating music from dead composers.

Well Worth It

I first heard exerpts from this recording on the radio. I took the plunge and purchased the CD and was not disappointed. Montero has devised a series of variations that are well in keeping with Bach's style. Most tracks are classically derivative while one or two others are a bit jazz-like. This is one of those rare recordings of which it can be said that there are no bad tracks.
