A great book!
The first few pages of this story was very slow reading, but once I got used to the casual and conversational narrative, and the local dialect, I became deeply engrossed in Anna's colorful life story. The setting was awesome, and the secondary characters were delightful! I'd definitely rank this as one of the best books I've read this year!
I want to live on The Isle of Palms!
I had a little trouble getting into this book initially. It wasn't my "type" and I thought the Southern jargon and sharp-tongued wit would wear thin after a few chapters. Was I ever wrong! I ended up laughing out loud and even starting to throw a few "y'all"s into my daily conversations. This story had just the right mix of emotion and humor - I thoroughly enjoyed this lowcountry tale!

Best one so far!
I've read all of her books except Shem Creek. This one, by far, is my favorite. I had the pleasure of reading it on vacation last fall.. guess where.. yep,

What a wonderful place. I hated to leave.
Loved the book too! :)
Another great book by Ms. Frank
After spending 15 years of my life in South Carolina (2 of which were in Mt. Pleasant), I now crave Dorthea Benton Frank's novels.
Unfortunately for me, I now live in Dallas, TX and I miss South Carolina more than I ever could have imagined.
When I read her books I feel like I know the characters. I laugh and cry with them.
I have read them all and cannot imagine what she'll think of next.
