an important, humane document

Keiji Nakazawa was six years old when the U.S. dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. Less than a mile from ground zero, he was shielded from the heat-blast by a stone wall; two decades would pass before he resolved to tell the horrible story of what he saw in the bomb's aftermath. "Barefoot Gen" is a semi-autobiographical comic book that chronicles the experiences of a young boy in the hell of Hiroshima. An important human document, it is also an excellent resource for younger people wanting to understand this quintessentially twentieth-century tragedy.
