Practical Candleburing Rituals

this is a very good book for those starting in any kind of magic. It is easy to read and understand with with diagrams on setting up the altar with the candles and how to use them. Good starter book for those who love candles and those who don't. It has rituals for the christian and non-christian.

Great Manual of Rituals. Lacking as a Complete Guide

This Book is an excellent beginners guide! There's only about 10 pages of real information that describes dressing the candles, etc. and the rest of the book is full of rituals. This is both good and bad. I was expecting more explanation to candleburining rituals and not just the rituals themselves (perhaps this is covered in the advanced guide?).
Some of his interpretations on Colors may be off (different authors have different viewpoints about colors and their meanings). But as general rule: BLACK SHOULDN'T BE USED FOR PROTECTION! Anyone who uses black for protection is probably advanced at candle magic and performing a special ritual. Remember this is a *practical* guide for beginners! Black is a negitave color and should be used for banishing, etc. not protection. White is a much more positive color for protection. Both white and black carry the same meanings (except white is positive and black is negitave). This is why raymond listed black the way he did in his book!

It's ok, but not great.

This book bothered me somewhat. Bucklands use of black candles is a bit mixed up. Black is used for protection, or at least it is in every other resource I have come across.

I also had a bit of a problem with his magick spells geared towards christians, however, in all fairness to Buckland, he does point out that Witchcraft is a religion, and magick is a practice. That said, I took a pencil and slashed every page that carried christian invocation of spells ( a personal choice so I wouldn't waste time reading the wrong version ).

Overall, it's not a bad book on candle magick. It provides some interesting spells to use, despite my disagreement with Buckland's choice of colors and what there suppose to be used for or what they represent, but hey, that's my personal choice. Which leads me to this statement..I don't believe any spell should be used per batem from a book. You look at the spell, you read it, and to make it your own, YOU CHANGE IT, even just a little..

So, if you want a book on candle magick, this one is ok. Take what you like from it and simply disregard the rest. Blessed Be.

There are 2 versions of candleburning in this book. Christian & non-christian, so anyone can really use this book. There are rituals for just about everything from bad habits to success. It gives alot of info before you start along w/ diagrams on how to set things up which make it easy to comprehend.
