Mandatory Reading for American Citizens
Butler, in straight forward and simple language, reveals an important, but generally ignored aspect of
America
n History. Specifically, war is about profit, and rarely about defense, ideology, or the other patriotic reasons offered for armed conflict.
Everybody needs to read this, and more importantly, consider how much its message affects us today, ninety years later.
General Smedley Butler is an amazing character
I've become fascinated by General Butler, a war hero and real patriot. You should also check out The Plot to Seize the White House, which is a fascinating true story about how Butler saved FDR from a potential military coup.

Amazing
More people should read this book--it's an excellent explanation of how the military-industrial complex exploits us through war.
What Seems Is Not Reality - Read This Pamphlet
I am torn in giving this small collection a rating. In terms of importance, I would give this booklet five stars. In terms of writing style, it would earn one star. Nevertheless, this is the kind of book you must read, for it will shatter your illusions, should you have them, about the nature of
America
n military might. These words, from pen of the
most
decorated
American general, Brigadier General Smedley Butler, form a well supported middle finger in the face of American hegemony and neo-colonialism.
From a literary standpoint, this is not a book. It is a collection of short essays, written as you would expect a brash general to write. "War is a
Racket
" is but one of a several essays in this short book. In addition to its namesake, the booklet also contains an arguments against American intervention in World War II, and a photo essay of the horrors of war.
I would recommend this booklet to anyone going off to fight yet another war based on lies and secretly intended for the profit of the ruling class. Parents, read this before considering allowing your child to join forces of evil.
