Gripping suspense thriller without the religious themes.

In Deception Point, Brown shows off his writing prowess with a fascinating plot, characterization of believable protagonists and the expertly played dramatic tension overshadowed in his other novels by heavy religious themes.

The antagonists in this novel, the Delta team stalking a group of scientist, may be the weakest part of the story. In creating the team, Brown followed a familiar pattern of omniscient, heartless villains with unlimited resources at their disposal. And they are pitted against unwitting, untrained and underarmed scientists. A little hard to believe but Brown pulls off the interactions between the opposing forces with great writing. You will have to suspend belief a little but that's what makes reading a thriller fun.

politcs and science...

...makes an interesting combination. Gets cheesy at times, but a fast page turner with enough surprising moments.

Ups and Downs in retaining interest.

This book created a theoretical plot that goverment and agencies fabricate the theory of global warming and are willing to go to great lengths to maintain that panic and concern. In the long term reading of Dan Browns writings, one can quickly gather that he finds fun in fantasizing about mysterious "high up" agency coverups that, if unearthed, could ultimately alter world wide thinking. I enjoyed the book but found it slow and lacking in depth, at times. There was fault in the depth of his characters, overuse in scientific terminology (what were half of those things, anyway?), a lack in developing gripping and believable situations and moments where I expected the book to delve deeper into my emotions but was sadly disappointed. Chapters of the books most "dangerous moments" of near death incidents were underdeveloped by a sudden "rescue" or "solution" without ever creating authenticity in the moment, for the reader. It is a good book for "bedtime" reading. I enjoyed the alternative way to view global concerns, but its believability is far fetched at best. I never had a problem putting it down when it was time to retire for the evening. Overall it was enjoyable but not the grab I was expecting.
