A book worth celebrating!!
How does one live a
spiritual
ly
discipline
d life? What can individuals do to embrace discipleship and enhance their spiritual
growth
? These are among the questions tackled by author Richard Foster in his book,
Celebration
of Discipline: the
Path
to Spiritual Growth. Of course, Foster has in mind not just any kind of spiritual growth, but specifically Christian spiritual growth.
In the first major segment of the book, Foster discusses inward disciplines of meditation, prayer, fasting and study. In the second segment of the book, he discusses the disciplines of simplicity, solitude, submission and service. In the final third of the book, he tackles the corporate disciplines of confession, worship, guidance and celebration here yet
The tone of the book is humble and helpful, not preaching or dogmatic. Underlying Foster's recommendations are the fact that spiritual growth is not a matter of working through a checklist but making sure that one's heart is in the right place along with the outward practices.
This book is a classic for anyone wishing to deepen their spiritual life and their relationship with God.

Celebration of Discipline
This book is excellent. Foster opened up many doors to me that I had never seen before. I never knew that there were
Spiritual
Discipline
s that would help me with my walk with Christ! But, now I know, and I am willing to take on the multiple challenges this book opened my eyes to.
A Great Book to Encourage Your Christian Walk and Faith
"
Celebration
of
Discipline
" by Richard Foster focuses on various disciplines we can practice to deepen our Christian faith and walk with Christ. The disciplines are separated into 3 main areas:
1. The Inward Disciplines - Disciplines that focus on our own personal relationship with Jesus Christ and to temporarily disengage from this busy and noisy world (Meditation, Prayer, Fasting, Study).
2. The Outward Disciplines - Discplines that focus on others and preparing us to serve others (Simplicity, Solitude, Submission, Service).
3. The Coporate Disciplines - Disciplines we can practice with other believers as part of the Body of Christ (Confession, Worship, Guidance, Celebration).
My personal favorite was the chapter on solitude and how we can use our times alone with God to refresh and reenergize us to be of greater use by Him for His glory.
The book is readablle yet challenging and will make the reader think about his/her relationship with God. Read and be encouraged to grow deeper in the Lord!
Highly recommended.

A Contemporary Classic
Richard Foster draws from the deep wells of Scripture and the devotional classics and gives us a contemporary classic that compels us to move beyond superficial faith to sincere faith, and out of cheap grace into costly grace.
Celebration
of
Discipline
is essential reading for the person who wants to grow and mature as a follower of Christ. Foster doesn't make the disciplines an end in themselves, but a means of growing in the grace and truth of Jesus Christ. He also helps us to see that the disciplines are not just for a select few who are extraordinarily gifted, but they are within the reach of ordinary people and I find that particularly encouraging.
This is a great book and worthy of a careful reading and re-reading.

The book is a practical guide for
spiritual
