The Ultimates Is The Ultimate In Action, Story and Some Laughs!
After seeing the DVD's Ultimate Avengers and Ultimate Avengers 2, I decided to see the source material on which it was based on! I got to say that the original comics have the films (as good as they were) beat by a mile!
I love the battle the
Ultimates
(Avengers) have with The Hulk! Quite hilarious to hear Hulk talk different than "HULK SMASH!" The funniest line was to Giant-Man when he says "Hulk Is Going To Rip Off Your Head And Use It For A Toilet Bowl!" The Captain America/Hulk battle also made sense as Cap threw everything at The Hulk including a low blow and still couldn't keep him down for long!
Overall, the revision of the Avengers legend was very entertaining, provocative and even shocking (especially the angle with Henry and Janet Pym)! Highly recommended book!

Absolutely incredible
I always disliked Captain America and was kind of apathetic toward the Avengers as a whole, but since both Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch worked in the Authority, (albeit at different times) I thought this might be worth reading. I can't emphasize enough that if you see anything with the
Ultimates
name on it being published today, BUY IT. I have all three volumes and I'm like an addict, I have to have more! This volume tells the story of the Ultimate universe version of the Avengers, with Captain America, Thor, Giant Man, Wasp, and Iron Man being recruited by Nick Fury of SHIELD to protect America. The fight with the Hulk is absolutely infreakincredible as Bryan Hitch is probably the best artist in a monthly series today. You will not regret this purchase if you like comics at all.

Ultimates 1
This book includes all 13 issues of the
ultimates
1, and while not as exciting and wild as Ultimates 2, it is still a good read and a great way to get into the ultimate universe.
the best the Ultimate universe has to offer....
This fantastic re-imagining of the Avengers is best consumed in this form. Yes there are too many pop culture references, yes the hulk is a little goofy and the Ultimate Nick Fury has virtually nothing in common with his regular universe counterpart but I think once your done with this gigantic, thirteen issue epic powerhouse you wont have much left to complain about. This story arc takes the Alternate Universe Avengers from their creation to their first major victory, ill let someone else spoil it for you but its good. The second volume is juuuust about complete as of november 2006 and is pretty amazing as well. This is the best that the Ultimate universe has to offer, is one of the few titles exploring fairly original ideas and has not been reworked specifically to appeal to teenagers, no inline skates, teen angst, or first love in this one.
Millar and Hitch are a great creative team but their ability to make deadlines is positively absurd. These thirteen issues took the better part of three years to be released and I read every one of those issues as it was released on the news stand. My wife got her MSW in the time it took the skrull war to unfold, it sucked and the new series isnt much better. Thankfully it has only one issue to go, hopefully well get it before theres a new president in the whitehouse. Removed from the delays the series is a pretty impressive achievement, the art is top notch and the story is positively crackin! Yes it's "just" a super hero comic but its one of the best, so if you like the medium and are lucky enough not to have read it yet do yourself a favor and check it out, and keep an eye out for the second series hardcover.

A must for any ultimate title
This is a must for any Ultimate marvel fan. Seriously if your going to choose which title from the ultimate series to choose you should definetly get the
Ultimates
. In this hardcover it includes the first 13 issues of the ultimates. Personally I never liked the avengers but the ultimates them selves are more fun and entertaining to read, and seeing the hulk as a nut case is definetly worth it.
