A fascinating read

Great writing style making it a hard book to put down. Every medical provider should read this book. As a provider for 15 years I have seen the tactics, I have watched drugs come in as samples and being promoted as some the best thing next to sliced cheese. I went to the dinners where "scientific information" was presented and thought that I wasn't smart enough to understand exactly why the drug was better(frequently, these same drugs were pulled from market). I have seen meds like neurontin being added to my patient med lists for a variety of reasons. Hmm I would think, I just don't read enough. Well, I will continue my wait and see attitude about new drugs. Something that sounds too good to be true....probably is.

Finally, the truth!

We all owe a large debt to Ms Paterson for this book. After many years of research, she has written this book which should be in every home in the country. The drug industry is out of control. We are all at risk because of the greed of the pharmas. Furthermore, the idea that these companies should be allowed to advertise on TV is evil. And doctors should be chastened as well. They should not be able to profit from the prescribing of any drugs.
I personally know of several doctors who receive percs from the drug companies and they are so blatant about it that one is tempted to out them about it.
We, as patients of these doctors, have a responsibility to hold them accountable for their actions. We all pay the price for their greed in our health and our pocketbooks.
So, do yourselves a favor and get this book and also buy it for somebody you love. It may save your lives.

If you are a Baby Boomer you need to read this book

This is a great book. It communicates a lot of medical information in an interesting and informative manner. Like everything in life, the more informed you are the better decisions you can make. This book makes tobacco industry executives look like rank amateurs.

Shocking and disturbing

This book was my first exposure to the corrupt and fraudulent system that the pharmaceutical industry in the U.S. is. I am absolutely shocked. I had no idea. And i realized that in some ways i have been fooled and enticed into this system myself. After reading this book, i feel like i can never again trust another doctor or count on a medication to cure any illness that i or members of my family or friends might encounter. I am scared. I used to have a very high opinion and deep respect for the medical and pharmaceutical science in America. Now my whole belief system has been turned upside down. I am completely disillusioned. And many things become so clear. Like the health care crisis. Like why do medications cost so much. And i am outraged at the politicians and the media that focus their attention on health care, but never mention the true reasons for why is it happening and thus all the solutions being offered are useless and not addressing the root of the problem.
I admire Melody Petersen for writing and publishing this book. I saw this book in the bookstore by chance. After reading just the first few sentences and the summary i knew i had to read it all. And i am so glad i did. I highly recommend it to everybody living in America. Because people don't know and don't understand what is going on. This book explains everything. Outstanding.
