Positively Brilliant
Out of the entire
Artemis
Fowl
series, this is easily my third or second favorite!
Well, assuming you've read the title to my review and assuming you've acknowledged this first sentence, you must realize just how great I believe this series is.
For starters, the concept in itself is brilliant. The stories are centered around the main character Artemis Fowl, a young (once evil) genius slowly growing a concience (I greatly apologize to everyone for spelling that last word wrong.) His partner is the young boy's bodygaurd, Butler, and his only real friend at first. He soon discovers a fairy civilization living beneath the surface of the earth where he makes friends with Holly Short, the newly annionted member of sector eight, Mulch Diggums, dirt eater extaordinare, and Foaly, the genius with four legs and a serious case of paranioa. Toghether they team up in order to save an entire species from extinction while preventing war between the human world and theirs.
Eoin Colfer knows exactly what he is doing. The
Lost
Colony
, although a little monotonous at first, quickly became a fast paced nail biting ride in which he flawlessly combines magic and science into one great story. In fact, I only have a few complaints. First, the beginning was a little boring. Second, the ending surprise (in which Artemis finds out he is a big brother) is unecissary and did not particularly arouse curiosity for the next
book
. Still, these are negligible compared to the wonderful writing Colfer has done. Great job, 4.8 stars.

Another enjoyable Artemis adventure
I found certain aspects somewhat predictable, but it's nice that
Artemis
has met another genius to contend with. Can't wait for the next one!
amazing book
i started reading the series in elementary school, and i have every
book
. this is definitely the best book of the series so far.
Artemis as a good guy makes for a great book!
The
Artemis
Fowl
book
s have continued to be a great series to read. For some reason I always start reading these books with a bit of reluctance because they are, after all, kids books. A few pages into the book though I am always hooked again; this continues to be the case.
In this book Artemis calculates that the time warped island that demons live on is slowly unraveling. He is attempting to prove his calculation by detaining a time warped demon. With a demon as proof he is hoping that fairykind will take him seriously and take action to save the demon race. When he shows up at the next demon appearance he finds that he is not he only one who has made calculations about demon appearances. A girl Artemis's age, name Minerva, kidnaps the displaced demon in hopes of completing research on the demon and hopefully winning the Noble Prize. Of course everyone's plans end up collapsing and chaos ensues.
The book is action packed and non-stop intellectual fun from the beginning to the end. The new characters introduced are wonderful. Minerva is the perfect female counterpart to Artemis and No.1, who revels in his new found English vocabulary, is a hoot. The whole gang is back and ready to deliver. Holly is in for a lot of action and Foaly has a whole new bag of tricks in his hands..er...I mean hoofs. Artemis is taking his turn as a "good guy" seriously and his new outlook on life really endears him to the reader. The addition of Minerva as a possible love interest is very interesting. Finally Artemis has someone to laugh at quark jokes with.
This is another fun book that further enhances the Artemis Fowl series. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

"Your first lengthy conversation with a girl your own age"
This new
book
in the
Artemis
Fowl
series succeeds at moving the story forward and introducing some new and important elements. As if it was not enough with all the different magical creatures, such as fairies, elves, goblins and dwarves, now we get to meet demons and warlocks. These two species are also associated with quantum leaps in time and space, which introduces a level of complexity in the plot that is hard to grasp. Trying to understand the logic behind this process will prove to be challenging to say the least, and Colfer says it clearly in his own words: "Time quandaries such as these should be forgotten for the sake of sanity". Following this advice will allow for a more enjoyable read.
The aspect of the plot that I found to be revolutionary and enthralling in this book has to do with the introduction of the character of Minerva. She is a female version of Artemis, a couple of years younger but with a similar level of intelligence and resourcefulness for obtaining what she wants. When Minerva crosses paths with Artemis in their mutual search for a demon, hidden emotions arise and sparks fly all around. Holly and Butler will naturally take part in the events that unfold, as will Minerva's dangerous and unstable bodyguard.
This installment is not as fast-paced as some of the previous ones and the fact that Mulch only has limited participation in the story, as does Foaly, reduces the opportunities to introduce the usual humor we have come to expect from this series. The book is nevertheless interesting and fans of the series will definitely have a good time.
