Check out the expression on his face!

This whole book is filled with more over-the-top expressions displayed on a very strong-willed pigeon. He doesn't want to go to bed. He's not (yawn) tired. So he proceeds to try out every excuse in the book, and as parents, we've heard them all. But they are STILL funny! Amazingly, kids find them funny too (do they not recognize themselves???) With every excuse, every plea, the pigeon's facial and body expressions are classic. Simple line drawings have never been more effective. Also, I found it interesting that the background colors got darker and darker as the night wore on. Finally, the pigeon konks out, but we get to see his dream........ of having a hot dog party. Hilarious!

I'm not tired. YAWN.... That wasn't a yawn

Another fun installment of our lovable take-no-for-an-answer pigeon. As in the other pigeon books we start out with the man asking us if we can make sure the pigeon doesn't stay up late. Of course we have the pigeon act like a young child determined to stay up late. The best part is the freak-out double page when our pigeon goes into all out tantrum mode, complete with hilarious drawings. Yawn... That wasn't a yawn, I'm not tired. Soon our lovable pigeon is asleep and the man comes back and thanks us for not letting the pigeon stay up late (if he only knew).

Another great addition to the lineup

First off, you have to understand these books, while silly and somewhat simple, have an incredible, if unexplainable, appeal to kids, but not necessarily adults. In this book, Pigeon uses a whole list of excuses as to why he's not tired. Slowly, he wears downs and, as with most kids, falls asleep whether he likes it or not. A fun read, especially for parents that have young ones who love to extend out bedtime night after night.

As with all the pigeon books, you have to be a 'creative' reader -use voices, make sure you change the tone and pitch of your voice. The replies made by pigeon are ones we all hear everyday, and reading it with some feeling greatly adds to the enjoyment and appeal of the book. My boys both love this whole series - and while I still have difficulty seeing why they think it's as hilarious as they do, we nevertheless, read and re-read these books over and over.

Great bed time or anytime book

Just like the bus book, it's interactive and begs for the kids to say "no" to the pigeon. It also helps them work through all their excuses at bedtime too.

Not a big fan

Before I begin, I must admit that I have yet to read "DON'T LET THE PIGEON DRIVE THE BUS". That said, I must also tell you that after reading this, I am in no hurry to read the above mentioned. I guess this book is just too simple for my tastes. I do, however, see the kid appeal in it. I felt that some of the Pigeon's comments seemed more adult-like than kid-like. For instance, one excuse he uses to stay up is "Y'know, we never get to talk anymore." or "What's five minutes in the grand scheme of things?" But then, the author has won awards for these books, so who am I to judge? I think there are a lot of fun books out there for 4-8 year olds and this is not on the top of my list.
