Field Tested and Still Good
I initially purchased this book during summer 2007, but was hesitant to post a review because I hadn't yet played the new
game
.
I was somewhat reluctant about the way that the game would work. It seemed that the talents likely led to some kind of unbalanced interaction, or that combat would be boring because of the single-attack paradigm that they adopted for the new game.
In fact, I have found this to be completely opposite the truth. Where I expected a lack of game mechanics to be too simple, I have instead discovered that the simplicity allows players to be more creative. My players in this game are not nearly as restricted by their game system into specfic responses. In D&D 3.5, almost every action demands some kind of dice roll, until a player is just a method for reporting numbers to the GM.
Saga
Edition
is much more fun because it realises that the system is just a facilitator for
roleplaying
, even in combat.
This has led to much faster, more complex combats. Combat involving just a few opponents can take a few minutes, rather than the bogged down length of previous d20 games.
Character creation and leveling are made a dream by the new skill system, given its simplicity. The big problem with other d20 games is that leveling takes forever because skill points need to be allocated. This method is much better.
Additionally, the character classes offer enough variety of talents and feat offerings that a player can produced the desired hero without much difficulty, allowing for a lot of customization.
The only complaint that I have is that the
star
ships section does not appear well thought out. There isn't really a way to run a combat between several different classes of starships, nor are the ways that starships can move entirely clear. The starship system is too simple, at best. However, since a new book is due to be released regarding starships, I can't let this detract from what is otherwise my new favourite RPG.

Super Awesome Things
An amazing update of the
Star
Wars
d20 RPG rules. Stream-lined
game
play, simplified rules system, cinematic style. It's great.
Star Wars: a New Edition
A very good product in general, my only complaint is the lack of a non-Jedi force using primary class.
New Type of D20 Game
I
star
ted this
game
with some friends a couple weeks back and it has been a lot of fun. New rules to learn, new character set up, and a different way of getting things done but its been a lot of fun, I would recommend this game to anyone who has had fun with the Traditional D20 DnD type game.
Star Wars Saga edition rpg
Well, after skimming the book and letting my 10 yr old read it and run a couple adventures, we both agree that this rules set is an improvement over the previous
Star
Wars
Rpg from Wizards of the Coast. The rules are clear and readable, the examples concise and helpful. The different eras could use more coverage, and I am sure this will be dealt with in later products.
