I just finished my surgical rotation and this book was a life saver! It's a user-friendly read and gives a short chapter on all the surgery basics, helping me manage the dreaded Q&A's from my preceptors. And this may be silly, but it was small enough to throw in my jacket pocket so I could tote it around with me. This is worth the dwindling cash, trust me.

absolutely essential

This is a classic that is absolutely essential for all medical students on surgery rotations. It presents a ton of critically important information in a succinct bullet format with adequate minimalist use of illustrations. I have seen it referenced by everyone from third year medical students to third year residents. There is no other comparable resource that packs this much high yield information into such a small and convenient package. However there is one caveat-this book is written in a bullet format and without adequate context provided by a review book written in prose, this invaluable resource can degenerate into a random array of facts. Therefore I advise that a student read a prose review book in surgery in addition to surgical recall. However, DO NOT NEGLECT TO READ THIS BOOK DURING YOUR CLERKSHIP OR YOU WILL REGRET IT.

The book to have for your surgical rotation.

I loved this book. Surgery rotations involve many long hours, leaving very little time to study. This book was concise and to the point, giving you the information you need to know while leaving out all of the unnecessary words. It saved hours of reading thick wordy textbooks and allowed me to get a good grade, as well as looking good when it came to be pimped. A must for any PA or medical student or resident.

As essential for surgery as Netters is for Anatomy

This book is awesome. I did a hardcore surgery rotation in a major level 1 trauma center and this book practically matched nearly every question asked of me while on clerkship. Excellent for the shelf exam as well.

A MUST-HAVE

I have the previous edition and I used it everyday during my surgery clerkship, as well as my 4th year surgery electives. I wouldn't have gotten by very well without this in my pocket to read before going into the OR or before pimp rounds. I also would recommend the Advanced recall for those who are thinking about going into surgery (but it's not necessary for 3rd/4th year rotations). I would recommend getting your own so you can make notes in it. Money well spent!!
