An instant classic

Certain comic book stories tell you what a character is all about. Planet Hulk does this for Marvel's most powerful and volatile creation. When the heroes of Earth decide that the Hulk is too dangerous to live among them, they play God and exile him to outer space. When the Hulk's shuttle goes off course, he emerges on the Planet Sakaar. He is weakened by his travel, and captured as a slave. For the first time in years, the Hulk can be hurt, and even killed.

This is a very multi-faceted story. We see the Hulk unleashed on a new world for the first time. We watch him fight his way through gladiatorial pits, and eventually lead a battle against the world's corrupt leader. Through it all, we see the Hulk's anger and will. He passes challenge after challenge, regaining his strength all the while. But we also see his weaknesses. So great is the Hulk's anger, so enormous his feeling of betrayal, that he fears he will literally destroy this new world. Suddenly, he no longer wants to be alone. He needs friends and loved ones to help him on the way, and to temper his anger lest he destroy everything he is working for.

Planet Hulk is a truly tragic tale that shows how deep this character is, and why he has been so popular since his inception in 1962. Greg Pak knows the character and the mythology well. If you're a fan of the Hulk, this is a must-have story, and one that will be regarded fondly for decades to come. If you don't know anything about the Hulk, this story will introduce you to the character in the best of ways and show you that the green goliath goes far deeper than merely, "Hulk smash."

Great collection and even better story

Great story arc, HC edition contains more than just the Incredible Hulk issues. The extras are good and this is an outstanding story. I was not an Incredible Hulk fan and didn't even read Hulk before this story arc but this arc changed my mind. If you are a Hulk fan I strongly recommend this. If you are not a Hulk fan but enjoy a comic with intense action and a gripping story, than this is also the book for you. I really enjoyed seeing Hulk in a place where he was actually at risk of being injured or killed and this book also presents a new and intriguing look at who Hulk really is.

Awesome!

I work on a military base so the comic selection is weak. Great to be able to get the entire Planet Hulk story line in one place...and the book itself is very well done and a great read!

Star Wars meets Gladiator

I enjoyed Planet Hulk a lot (much more than its short and uneventful prelude). It was a fun story that took me to an interesting, somewhat barbaric alien world. It was fun to watch Hulk go from slave to rebel, rebel to... Well I won't spoil the story here. My only disappointment was with the ending. It was a good ending, it just seemed to happen a little too quickly. Like Marvel said "World War Hulk has to come out SOON so just END IT" and that was that. maybe that's just me though.

Very Good

I've never been a fan of The Hulk but I bought this book on the recommendations of others and I was not disappointed.

The story and art were very good and It was refreshing to read a Marvel book that was so outside the regular universe that it felt like a brand new title.

I may have to come to grips with the fact that I'm becoming a Hulk fan because I can't wait for World War Hulk to come out.
