Doomsday

What a stupid concept, right? Spiderman, Colonel America, The Hulk, The X-men and all the rest of the Marvel Super-heroes turn into zombies. Dumb, no?

NO!

Marvel Zombies was one of the more pleasant surprises that I've come across in long long while.

Robert Kirkman, Creator of The Walking Dead series (The Walking Dead Book 1, The Walking Dead, Book 2, The Walking Dead Book 3, The Walking Dead, Vol. 7: The Calm Before & The Walking Dead Volume 8: Made To Suffer), knows how to do a zombie story. And he does Marvel Zombies just as well as he does the aforementioned Walking Dead series.

Marvel Zombies is an exceptionally well-done tale of what would happen in the universe where some of our favorite super-heroes are affected by a zombie infection and go to war with the living. What happens? Well, our super-heroes win, of course...but us normal folk don't see it as a win, that's for sure. We're talking taking super-heroes and turning them into super-zombies. Do the math....It's Doomsday, people.

This story is extremely well-written, and there's no need to have ever read or seen a single comic book to appreciate Marvel Zombies. And this release couldn't be more timely with the blockbuster movie releases of Spider-Man 3 and Fantastic Four - Rise of the Silver Surfer coming out almost simultaneously. A couple of the characters in those movies have big roles in Marvel Zombies.

Do you like zombie flicks? Do you enjoy the Marvel super-hero stories? Yes? Then Marvel Zombies is a terrific, enjoyable, quick read that you'd be remiss to deprive yourself of.

Check it out. (And then don't miss the prequel: Marvel Zombies vs. Army of Darkness where some real "Ash" kickin' gets done!)

Awsum

Crazy story. Good guys now bad guys now zombies. Not for the faint of heart but it was one of those great guilty pleasures watching superheros turn into canibals.Great art,Hard cover, quality story telling and whole lotta fun.

Gruesome yet Hilarious: Marvel Zombies = Guilty Pleasure

You can't really read Marvel Zombies and take it seriously--and you shouldn't either. While the artwork is great (the cover parodies are fantastic), the dialog is stupid, and it's all really, really gross (but intriguing). You have to love it for what it is...a totally twisted B-rated parody of the Marvel universe.

The characters act completely volatile and self-serving after being zombified, but they are at least true to themselves (ex- Peter Parker is still whiny and ansty, Bruce Banner has issues with being the Hulk, and Wolverine is still quick with the claws and dripping sarcasm). There is also a small story that surrounds survivors which gets continued in more detail in later issues. Overall, it was a fun read, and amusing to see overly "perfect" characters turned into greedy human-eating creatures (making Capt. America the "leader" was the best).

So, if you love cheesy horror flicks and you love Marvel (but aren't above seeing beloved Marvel characters mutilated and turned into flesh-eating monsters) this series is a must-have.

Great idea with a fun story!

I was very excited about receiving this compilation. The idea is very unique and pretty well thought out. I'm not a huge fan of the whole zombie idea in general, but combine it with Marvel characters and I'm sold. The back story is a little lacking which I guess is why some people recommend reading the Army of Darkness VS. Marvel Zombies before this one. I didn't so I can't really say anything about that. The story was fun, the artwork was excellent. The artists took old Marvel comic covers and redid them as zombie characters which is a very neat idea.

To me though the story was lacking something, I can't quite put my finger on it, but something just seemed to be missing. Aside from that I'd say give it a read. It's quick, the price is right and I don't think you'll be disappointed.
