You Really Oughta Read This One

This is one of those books that make you say "I wish I'd read this in MY first year of teaching," but the truth is I can completely appreciate it now, after my 5th year of teaching. Esme's creative ways of handling challenges are a riot to read.
And she neatly handles everything -- from having a jerk for a principal to having a 5th grade student show up with a 2-year-old sibling -- with the same spunky grace. The language is rough, but this book is worth stepping over language landmines to savor the invigorating spirit of Esme. It's a very fast read, so treat yourself. Get this one and a good cup of coffee, find a comfortable, sunny spot, and enjoy!
