Enslaved by nephews...
Looking for something for my very bright nephew for Christmas, I heard a review of "
Enslaved
by
Ducks
" on NPR. The reporter said it was the funniest book he'd read in ages. Good enough for a clever joker and voracious reader I thought. My nephew loved it!!! Everyone started looking to see if there was a creature with his name in the book and what the description was. Good fun and a good read! A happy Aunt
A book to treasure!
Almost unbearably delightful, I could not put this book down. Tarte's ability to take the reader with him on his misadventures in aquiring new "family" members is absolutely top notch writing. Rarely does a book cause me to laugh out loud, this is one of those rare exceptions. I was held enthrall from start to finish and there were no boring parts at all. The only unfulfilled desire I had was that the book offered no photographs. I would love to see all these remarkable critters and the home they shared with Bob and Linda. I strongly recommend this book to all who love animals and anyone who needs a compelling read to cheer them up! More Bob Tarte books please!!

Hilarious!!!
Once I read the first chapter of the psychotic bunny and began reading about the second chapter of a neurotic parrot, I was hooked. The second and third chapters were especially laugh-out-loudable, when Bob is describing the parrots and parakeets that his wife convinces him to get. This story somehow reminds me of what I did to my own husband, only instead of birds it was cats he was
enslaved
by until I rescued his manhood and adopted two dogs from the shelter.
This book covers a ten-year-period of the couple's experiences with all kinds of birds from parrots to geese to doves,
ducks
and mallards. And naturally there is also some sadness when several of them fall fate to a painful demise for whatever reason. But grief comes along with any pet owner and any petowner would understand the joys and sorrows of this book even if they are like me and not particularly fond of birds.
I should write a book this funny of my husband, who not only was enslaved by cats and dogs, but seven citrus trees I bought. But whoever heard of a man becoming enslaved by plants? (Only a husband could!)

Enslaved by Ducks review
Slow but funny reading. I read it in spurts. It is a book of his columns that were printed in the newspaper.
