Shatters the myth of a "liberal media"

Yes, it's no secret that Fox is unfair and biased instead of fair and balanced and is a very scary dispenser of radical right-wing propaganda, but this excellent documentary, contrary to what some detractors might suggest, does a lot more than just restating the obvious. It gives many chilling and concrete examples of the different types of propaganda the channel uses, how it's run (scarily like Stalinist Russia, as seen in the examples of memos ordering people what to cover, and how, and the examples of people being screamed at and suspended if they didn't go along with the agenda, like what happened to Jon Du Pre when he didn't glorify Reagan's 90th birthday as something akin to a holy day, even though there wasn't a lot to cover), how they attack anyone who goes against their own radical ideology, how they were actually the ones who "called" the 2000 election even though it was still too close to call at the time, and how they consistently insert their own political beliefs in with the phrase "some say." And this is far from left-wing propaganda. The people who made the documentary may be progressives, but that doesn't automatically mean it's just the other side of the coin. I would consider a radical leftist to do things like, say, use the spellings "Amerikkka" and "I$rael," or to be advocating anarchy, or to want to abolish the military. All of the people interviewed in this documentary, a number of whom used to work for Fox, are very rational people who provide evidence for what they're talking about instead of frothing at the mouth with propaganda and rhetoric that's at the opposite end of the spectrum.

There's also nothing wrong with the fact that Fox is a conservative channel with a consistently very conservative pov, since freedom of expression is one of our First Amendment rights and extends to everyone, not just people one agrees with. The problem is with how they present these views. Although I'm very left-wing, I know very well that there are a lot of intelligent conservatives out there, who calmly and maturely present their views and what they see as evidence to support these positions (as much as I disagree with them), who don't resort to bullying, childish name-calling, straw man arguments, fear-mongering, and outright lies to make their points. A real conservative news network would have journalistic integrity, recognise that there's a conflict of interest if someone whose wife is covering the presidental campaign of the Republican candidate is himself covering that subject on the station, cover real issues instead of things that are either non-issues (since when does a silly story like "Bennifer" merit a news alert?!) or are designed to divide the people and divert attention from more serious things, not let their hosts constantly tell guests of opposing views to shut up and to label anyone who disagrees with them as enemies of the state, equally present both sides of an issue, not make the other side look ridiculous or like liars, while only showing their own people as demigods, have an equal amount of guests from each side, and have the panelists and hosts have equal credentials, instead of having their only "liberal" guests be very weak unknowns, conservatives in liberals' clothing, or someone like Alan Colmes, a pale squirrely-faced man who looks ridiculous when paired with a good-looking professional-looking guy like Sean Hannity. As the documentary also says, the real truth should be arrived at after studying multiple points of view and going to multiple sources, instead of just getting all of your opinions from any news source, liberal or conservative, with such a demonstrated agenda and lack of journalistic integrity.

Also included is a making-of featurette, featuring both the people who put the documentary together and the volunteers who watched Fox for 5 months to gather all of these chilling examples of disinformation, propaganda, and villification of anything that's not in line with the party ideology. Unfortunately, this is one of those films that either won't be seen by those who most need to see it, or else is watched by said audience while covering their ears and shouting "La la la I can't hear you!" And for those who do agree with the film's conclusion but continue to say "Who cares?" because Fox being right-wing propaganda is such common knowledge, as Jean-Jacques Rousseau once said, "As soon as anyone says of the affairs of the State `What does it matter to me?' the State may be given up for lost."

Outfoxed

How Rupert Murdoch uses his Fox TV channel to broadcast his personal spin on events and further his political agenda by influencing public opinion. That what is presented as "news" on his channel is in fact mostly fictional propaganda.

refreshing truth

it is very difficult to get access to the truth of american politics. this is one of the few hard to find places where a person has the opportunity to hear and see the real picture of the the Bush administration and republican rule.
