Most Awesome Season Yet!
I can't believe there was ever a time that I thought that this show was
TOO GIRLY for me. I have been hooked on it from episode 1 and it keeps getting better with each subsequent episode. Through the first 4
season
s, I have come to Realize that
Gilmore
Girls
is a wonderful show for the entire family, not just the girls. Season 4 was the best yet, and I am SOOOOO stoked to see seasons 5 and 6.
gilmore glory
if you're familiar with the
gilmore
girls

A good start, a dull middle, and a spectacular ending!
In general, television shows tend to run along the same lines. There must be a bit of comedy and light moments, there must be a bit of drama (unless the show is a mocking sort of show, and then it's less important), and there must be some spectacular characters that people connect to.
Gilmore
Girls
applies to all, and while a fabulous show, this
season
is without a doubt its weakest one. Perhaps this is due to the fact that the writers didn't know how to deal with the fact that mother and daughter were separated now (with our young Rory off to college!). It could also just be due to the fact that by the
fourth
season of a show, ideas start to become harder to find.
While season 4 starts out very nicely with "Ballrooms and Biscotti" and "The Lorelais' First Day at Yale" (similar to the season 1 episode, "The Lorelais' First Day at Chilton" in title, but not so much in emotion), two episodes that are both amusing and pleasant to watch. After that it just kind of stumbles.
Rory's in college. Now what? The bright Chilton valedictorian finds herself in a different environment and as time passes, she realizes that college is tough and finds herself struggling with school and life. Rory's social life in this season is also something people like to comment about. Yes, perhaps this IS the first time WE see Rory without a boyfriend. Either way, she does end the year with a guy, but quite honestly, it's a dumb event that made me scream at the television set, frustrated that a character and person I admire so much could do something so stupid.
Lorelai, meanwhile, is struggling with a very different sort of drama. She, unlike Rory, FINDS herself a boyfriend (someone new, finally), but this fella of hers also happens to be her father's business partner. Not so good. But her life doesn't revolve around the relationship. While it's pleasant while it lasts, we see very little of it and get much more of a glimpse of Lorelai in business mode, trying to get her business up and running. In fact, the season ends with someone getting up and running at her new inn! Lorelai just goes through the season, and while she makes her typical witty remarks and behaves in her silly and fun way, she doesn't do much until the end of the season.
Yes, the season started off on the right foot, but as it delved deeper into the season, it became clear that most of the episodes were what would have been called "filler" episodes in the previous seasons. Not much happened in this season until the end, where it almost seemed like TOO much happened. One girl ended the season perfectly, and the other in the silliest mess she could ever land herself in. Certainly fuel for next season! The last five episodes are excellent, with drama (if that's what you want), love (if THAT'S what you want), and plenty of laughs (well... we all want those).
BUT you can't watch the very good season 5 without watching this first, so here's what: While this is the weakest season of the Gilmore Girls to date, it's still reasonable, funny, and a pleasant time-spender. The rest of Gilmore Girls IS better, so keep on watching!

Not my favorite, but still good...
Season
four of the
Gilmore
girls
is my least favorite season so far. Why? Its hard to maintain a show about the relationship between a mother and daughter when both Lorelai's spend so much time apart! Rory is at Yale, and mom stays at home. Plus, I felt Rory has become a bit of a snob since attending the school. The review about the Ballerina that Rory writes for the school paper was just cruel and unnecessary and SO unlike Rory. Her lecturing Dean about the importance of College was just a bit rude. I also felt Kirk as the 'loveable goofball' was a bit overdone this season. A little Kirk goes a long way.
What I liked this season was the band with Lane and the cute new 'old' guy (yum). Liked the exploration of Paris' character (although the professor/student relationship skeeves me out). Particularly enjoyed the spring break episode and the episodes with Lane.
3.5 stars. Good, but not excellent. Worth a watch.
