Special Edition with both DVD & CD is available

Instead of this CD alone, I suggest the Bocelli, Andrea : Sacred Arias CD & DVD Special Edition (ASIN: B0000CE9VO). It includes the full 77 minute concert on DVD, plus the two bonus tracks on the DVD, plus the full 72 minute CD. This includes two bonus tracks on the CD not available on the original CD. Amazingly, the Special Edition is a few dollars less than the DVD alone and only a few dollars more than the CD alone. What a bargain! This is an amazing concert with a tremendous picture quality on a big screen TV. It is one of those DVD's that captures the feeling of "being there". A must-see for any Andrea Bocelli fan.

Goosebumps!

Bocelli has assembled a wonderful collection of sacred arias, and he sings them with love and reverence. If his voice isn't as polished as Pavarotti's, he makes up for it with excellent interpretation and the wisdom to choose music that suits him well. He sings with a minimum of ornamentation, letting the beauty of the compositions and the clean, pure quality of his voice do the work. Don't get me wrong -- he's got a great vibrato, and a strong fortissimo, but he knows when to use them and when to sing with more reserve.

This is sacred music sung with real reverence. It gave me goosebumps the first time I heard it, and still does so dozens of plays later. Worth every penny!

Songs and Singer Inspirational

This is my favorite Andrea Bocelli CD. As Andrea himself has said, "Religious music is unrivaled." The beautiful "Ave Maria," the reverential "Panis Angelicus," and the stirring "Gloria a te, Cristo Gesu," evoke a sense of awe and wonder that the popular and operatic music, much as we might love it, cannot.
From the humble strains of "Silent Night" to the majestic choruses of "Adeste Fideles," these songs speak of things eternal and lasting, rather than the fleeting passions of love and romance. They lift us above our own petty concerns and attach us to something larger, and grander, than ourselves.
This is music to inspire, uplift, and make you feel part of a great religious tradition, sung not only by a very gifted artist, but a very courageous man.

From the Heart

I received Sacred Arias as a gift for Christmas and found it to be extraordinary music from the heart. I was especially moved by the Ave Maria by Caccini/Mercurio, so full of the deepest reverence and emotion for Mary, the mother of Jesus. It is a vocal prayer that touches the depths of the soul, even though the lyrics are simply a repetition of "Ave Maria," or Hail Mary. I have played this piece whenever I have wanted to feel the presence of God or the Blessed Mother. But all the selections are beautiful in that you can feel Andrea's heart and soul in each one. This is the most important thing in my mind when you are listening to sacred music. I've noticed that one priest in our area sometimes plays the arias at Mass during the communion meditation. What a gift from an artist who sees with the heart.
