Wendy Carlos is the composer

I'd hate for people to stop by this selection and read a previous comment/"review" here and be mislead to believe that they are not buying a product from the true artist. That person is partially correct that Walter Carlos was the name the original credit for the work was given to, but that was due to prejudices of the time. WENDY Carlos, is NOT a misprint. She is the composer of these great works. Walter was a psuedonym, just like that any other artist. In Wendy's case, due to sexism, it was a necessity to have a pseudonym, until the societal climate and "composers boys' club", if you will, was open to accept her as a legitmate composer using her own name. So fans of this soundtrack and other Wendy Carlos/Walter Carlos works, please know that it is the same person and you will do yourselves a great disservice to avoid one or the other, due to confusion about the name.

With that out of the way, the soundtrack to this film is one of the greatest of all time, combining beautiful and fresh original works, with inspired interpretations of classics by composers such as Bach. For the first time ever, Wendy's ENTIRE score is presented for us all to enjoy. Previous versions of this release had abridged portions of certain pieces. Carlos is one of the forerunners of electronic music and pushing forward film music as we know it today. Whether you listen to this score with the picture or listen to it alone, it is still like nothing out there in the years before or since. Still haunting, joyous, and terrifying all at once. And you will remember it for years to come, as I have. If you love Wendy's work, you should also check out her work with Kubrick "The Shining", as welll as "Tron". There are also a number of non-soundtrack works she has created under both the Walter and Wendy names, which will also make you very happy.

Real horrorshow, O My Brothers

I orignally bought the British and US versions of the sountrack so I could have all the electronic music from CO. With this CD the original work of W Carlos is intact and together and all the symphonic versions of those "needle-drops" from the movie are replaced with crystal-clear electronic versions developed for the movie which Kubrick did not use. Also included are the full version of Timesteps, an interesting collage reminiscent of Cage or Stockhausen in some respects. You also get the full version of Country Lane, where little Alex is getting beaten by his Copper ex-droogies. Also included are two more original pieces written by Carlos for the film which have not appeared before. They are classically-based but the real highlights we are already familiar with: The NINTH! O my brothers! Classic stuff which was apparently completed prior to Carlos working on the film. For my money, this is THE proper soundtrack to this album, unless you like "I Want to Marry a lighthouse keeper" and Singin in the Rain" which means you aren't reading this.. Like Switched-On, ACO is classic in a class of its own.

Digital re-classified and excitingly perfect!

Hard to get in the Netherlands but finally have the digital version of A Clockwork Orange in hands!
Back in the early 70's I tried to share this music with others whom I also introduced S.O.B.-I! Not too many felt what I did, intence joy of this great electronic impact.
Getting dazzled by Timesteps, or feel classic with La Gazza Ladra and afterwards singing in electronic rain, all of it is of excellent quality.
Still today, and after all these years, listening to all what Wendy Carlos now has put on CD (I have them (nearly) all!) pleases me every second. These productions are for those who can appreciate and know what music means and what it can do to you.
It never bores.

Wendy Carlos -- the master of dream syllables

Wendy Carlos -- like Max Steiner in 1933, and the later generations of Philip Glass, Giles Reaves, Robert Carty, David Parsons, Leo Kottke, John Fahey (and parts of John Williams's work on "Jurassic Park" and "Close Encounters") -- has the uncanny ability to take the resonances of what one might glimpse in dreams, giving them voice. Perhaps, in the decades since Auschwitz, it is only music which provide us with the tools of see-ing, as the Chassidic masters taught. Elie Wiesel has said that in art (music, words, film) some things are true although they never happened, and some things are not even if they transpired. Like Tibetan chants, or the haunting melodies of Chassidim which survived the vanished world, the Kingdom of Night of 1933-1945, Wendy Carlos reaches inside. Unlike "Bob Dylan", she has never betrayed us, never lied to us, but remained faithful to her dreams, thereby allowing all of us to hear our own.

Wendy Carlos

A slight mistake in the product listing. The actual name of the composer/arranger is Walter Carlos.
