Tarentino Strikes Again

After the superb masterpiece Pulp Fiction, came From Dusk Till Dawn (1995) which continued the genius Quentin Tarantinos consistent flair for startling origanality and diversity.

This wild action-thriller sees two brothers (George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino) venturing on a desperate crime spree across America. Tarantino puts in an effective and significantly amusing performance as the completely deranged convict who alongside the dynamic on-screen presence of George Clooney, kidnaps a preacher (played convincingly by Harvey Kietel of Reservoir Dogs fame) and his two children (which includes Juliette Lewis of Natural Born Killers fame).

They flee with their hostages in tow to a remote and eerie nightclub in Mexico. Where as the film seems to be settling down as a compelling hostage drama, the film wildly steers direction and plunges into an enduring and darkly humorous horror movie as the nightclub is soon to be discovered to be crawling with blood-thirsty vampires.

The outrageous plot twists shrewdly make From Dusk Till Dawn all the more compelling and riveting and the dialogue races along like a rollercoaster!

The special effects are vastly impressive and the energetic filmmaking and engaging peformances from all the cast makes this truly another masterpiece to Tarantinos credit.

Masterpiece

This movie is an instant cult classic! I watch it at least twice a year. This is a must see for everyone.

Classic Tarintino

Watching this movie is like viewing two separate movies that are loosely related. The first half is classic Tarintino with excellent dialogue and bizarre situations. The second half is entirely different than anything Q.T. has ever done. At first I didn't like it, because I was hoping for another Pulp fiction, but after I let it stand on its own I realized it is very good.

Blood, Guts and Glory

-Two murdering brothers hijack a former preacher and his two kids in an RV and force them to drive them to a strip bar, but once the sun goes down at this strip bar the inhabitants change from drunk and unruly to hideous looking vampires that care less about sucking your blood and rather just focus on making you die a rather slow and painful death.

-The best part of the movie is just how insanely over the top everything in the movie is done after the vampires come into the story. Before all that the movie is a very nice thriller about two brothers on the run and how they force a family to help them. We also get some nice moments with the priest and find out why he's lost his faith and all that stuff was really great but my god once the vampires pop up it goes from being a great thriller to just being a really fun movie. usually such a sharp change in tone could hurt a movie but for reasons unknown you just go along with it in the movie. I also love the whole notion of how no one is really safe in the movie and just when you get to love a character he is killed off in the next scene.

-Much like "Kill Bill" the violence is ridiculously over the top and not realistic in any way which is great because we watch movies to be entertained not to see people suffer. the effects are pretty amazing too considering the budget of the movie and at the risk of sounding mean spirited i wish there were more blood and guts in the movie. despite the movie being filled with vampires and extreme violence the story is actually pretty good in all it's over the top glory. Tarantino actually managed to squeeze in a very nice tale of two brothers and a family spending the night in hell which and he does it really well. the dialog for a majority of the movie is hilarious especially the ones from the vampires in the strip club and all the characters are well rounded. usually movies like this have laughable story lines but i really liked the one in this one it was really good

-The way the vampires get killed off is without a question the best part of the movie and they never repeat a kill shot too much but rather keep mixing it up. In one scene they may die by a steak going through their chest then in the next they die by getting their bodies hacked in half. The way the humans die is pretty sick too so overall gore fans will love this movie. Special effect god Tom Savini is in the movie which is appropriate for him since this type of crazy stuff is probably heaven for him.

-Clooney and Tarantino play the evil brothers not in a wink, wink way but not necessarily in a serious way too. Tarantino is pretty funny in his role as the horny murderer that gets bossed around by his brother although he looks nothing like Clooney save his chin. Harvey Keitel plays the faithless preacher and he was alright i guess. didn't really care much about his character since I cared more about Clooney and Tarantino. Salma Hayek plays a stripper by day and a vampire by night. I'm not sure about this but i think this was he first movie and much like Jessica Alba in "Sin City" she's a stripper that never actually takes her clothes off. what's the point of being a stripper if your clothes still stay on your body i mean seriously. it's not like the movie is PG-13 so I think she can be allowed to show some skin

-If B movies aren't your thing then it's probably a good idea to stay away, but if ridiculous plots, over the top action, and low brow humor is you thing then you'll be in heaven with this.
