An excellent book!

Maus 2 is a sad, yet superb look into the all-too-real terror of the concentration camps. The book is written in a comic format, using mice as Jews, cats as Nazis, and dogs as the Americans. The story is told by Spiegelman's father, who was placed in a concentration camp. The terror's he survives are brutal. This book is recommended to anyone who would like to learn about concentration camps, and is a very fast read.

Artistically intelligent and emotionally heart-wrenching

I'm not a professor of English or Jewish history. It was merely a college-level English class that I was assigned to read Maus II: And Here My Troubles Began. Spiegelman offeres readers a personal look into the tradegy/triumph of a Holocaust suvivor. He gives an excellent visual that completely draws the reader in making him, too, a victim of Hitler's Europe. You would have to be a Nazi yourself not to be touched by Vladek's experience in Auschwitz.

You'll never look at comix the same way again

Maus is one of the darkest, most brilliant comic stories ever. It is amazingly written and very well-drawn, using a very clever tool to take some of the edge off of the unrelenting terror of The Holocaust. The characters are wonderful and more importantly, they're real.

In my opinion, the second volume of Maus (which shows Vladek trying to stay alive day to day in the concentration camps) is the better and more effective of the two. The story is dark and very chilling, and we cannot stop reading Vladek's terrifying story, wondering what will happen next. Mixed with this are the excellent elements of Vladek and Art's present lives and interactions with each other.

Maus is a truly beautiful story. Don't miss it.

RIVETING! IT REALLY TOUCHES YOUR HEART.

I loved Maus I. And after it was over, I was just not satisfied with the end so I went out and read the second one as well. I love reading things about the Holicost and real life stories of what people went through. I remember reading "The Diary of Ann Frank" when I was in fourth grade and I have been interested in the Holicost ever since. It is like the films "Schindlers List" or "Life is Beautiful." Both in wich as great as well as Maus. You really feel like you get to know the charecters and what they are and did go through. I recomend this to everyone!

A work of art!

I just finished this book for a class i am taking about the Holocaust. Of the books, articles, and movies we have seen so far (including works by elie weisel, claude lanzmann and primo levi), this is the best! I am so impressed with spiegelman's account of his father's strife in auschwitz and other camps. The cartoons are gripping and very representative of how mr. spiegelman felt (i assumed). I wonderful book.
