"You'll laugh, you'll cry...."

I am a big fan of Marian Keyes and this book is probably one of her best. I could not put it down. While there were some low points in the characters' lives I thought that this made a more realistic story. I think that the characters went through things that everyone of us has gone through at some point or another in life. Excellent book, and not to sound tired and trite but "You'll laugh, you'll cry..."

Fantastic book!

This was the second book I've read by Marian Keyes, and I couldn't put it down. Each and every character has a unique and interesting story, and the way they come together and support each other through a difficult time is so touching.

Marian Keyes continues to rock my world!

Last Chance Saloon--where a woman stands if she is over 30 and single, at least according to Tara, one of a small group of friends who have known each other since their days in a small town in Ireland. She has spent her adult life jumping from bad boyfriend to bad boyfriend and is presently with a really bad one. Thomas calls her a fat cow, monitors her candy consumption, and is generally nasty to her, "for her own good."
Tara's best friend Katherine is in a Last Chance Saloon of her own creation. Seriously devastated by a series of painful relationships, she creates an image of "Ice Queen" to avoid getting too close to love.
All of this changes when Fintan, their third best friend, faces catastrophe.
Keyes explores thoughts all women have had, from "Is this as good as it gets?" to "How hurt will I get by getting too close?", all with wit and humor. You will not be disappointed by Last Chance Saloon!

If I could give this book MORE than 5 STARS, I would

Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous.

This must be one of Marian's best books written. I have read a couple of her books (Rachel's Holiday & Watermelon) and I was just blown away by this story.

I do love Marian's style of writing, but at first I was a little hesitant about reading this book because it wasn't about the Walsh family...

I am so glad I didn't follow through with my thoughts!! This novel gives insight to such an important purpose of everyday living that many people take for granted/ overlook- which is life itself; how we act, what we do with the talents we are given, and how we listen to our family and friends.

This novel is a must read. I never thought I could have been so touched by a book.

Cute Beach Read

While this book is a fun read, it has some added benefits--Marian Keyes really knows how to develop characters. Her characters are complex, screwed up, happy and sad in the same breath--basically, they're real. While the plot and the story weren't especially interesting, it's worth reading just to experience Keyes' way of description.
