If Vonnegutt and Hiaasen procreated.
Do you like Carl Hiaasan or Kurt Vonnegutt's wacky stories? Or maybe you're the kind of person who likes the philosophical, thought provoking style of Tom Robbins. If any of these authors are your cup of tea then you will most definitely like this book.
Like most of Moore's books, you have to suspend your beliefs while you read. Some of his ideas are so far-out that they seem sort of silly. But that's what Moore is all about.
He does manage to add meaningful dialog about the nature of depression and antidepressants. He does admit the usefulness of the latter while showing the necessity of the former.
A major problem in psychology is also pointed out; does your doctor show a lack of interest in your mental problems? You know, when you're telling your doctor that you've been feeling down and he/she already has the prescription written out before you are even done giving your symptoms.
Also, if you like this kind of wacky adventure you may want to check out "Stormy Weather" or "Tourist Season" by Carl Hiaasan. He has a similar storytelling style, only without the supernatural aspects.

Love Strikes Pine Cove
The only other book I've read by Moore is Practical Demonkeeping which I had enjoyed but it had taken me some time to get used to his writing style. This time I knew what to expect and once I started the book I couldn't put it down. The
Lust
Lizard
of
Melancholy
Cove
is a delightfully demented retelling of Pete's Dragon with a style of humor that rivals Terry Pratchett.
Moore's books are especially funny to me because there is a Pine Cove, California and while it's not where Moore has located it, he's captured the town's many small town quirks perfectly. Then he throws a supernatural event into the mix and sits back to watch the story unfold.

A monster thriller that will leave you in stitches
In the small coastal town of Pine
Cove
, CA, the local psychiatrist decides to take everyone off their regular medications, quietly replacing them placebos. Soon enough, the whole town starts acting funny, and things get even strange when a seabeast named Steve roars up on the shore. He has a certain way about him that brings out the libidos of anyone around -- human and animal alike -- and starts to enjoy his new hunting grounds. It's up to local sherriff (and stoner) Theo Crowe to figure out how to rid the town of their newest resident before more people start to disappear.
Author Christopher Moore is at his best with this comic horror tale. Great characters -- especially Steve, a throwback to the swinging days of the '70s sex scene...even if he is a 100-ft. sea monster; imaginative storytelling; lots of intrigue and action. An all around great book to read. Fans of monsters, horror novels, even comedies will love this!

A god among schmucks.
In a world of authors making a statement about the world or simply being pontificating art-holes, I love Christopher Moore. He's a genius. Not a stuffy, Actor's Studio, foo-foo, la-la, mensa - genius. A non encumbered brain - genius. He lets his mind bounce wherever it wants, not caring if it should make sense in the world. Yet, it all does make sense. The characters are people I have known, or met, or seen...they are all very real, with all the dysfunction, lunacy, contradictions, and humanity that real people have. There is nothing contrived about Moore's writing, he's not trying to be out there or weird. He just is. After reading
Lust
Lizard
, I became addicted. I've since read Island of the Sequined Love Nun, Bloodsucking Fiends, The Stupidest Angel, and Practical Demonkeeping. He never lets me down, I always end up laughing my ass off and unable to put the book down. I'm ready for more Moore.

Funny and engaging
I don't normally read fiction. But I enjoyed Lamb so much that I thought I'd read another Chris Moore book. Most of my friends suggested
Lust
Lizard
.
Although it's not nearly as complex or deep as Lamb, it is a enjoyable read. It's light, funny, and has characters that are fairly well defined. I particularly like the passages that are from the dog's point of view.
This reads much like the funnier parts of Lamb (sorry, that's the only other CM book I have to compare it to at this point). If you're looking for more depth, this probably isn't it. But if you want an entertaining book that doesn't require a lot of thinking, go for it.
