catch a rising star!!!

You should see this because it has an eary appearance by America (yes, peo-ple, that is HER real name) Ferarra!!! WHo, you ask?? Oh (casually) only the star of UGLY BETTY. (looks up, says ala Pulp Fiction) "Oh, do I have your attention now???? Also in this movie is Roary from GG (gilmore Girls for the ignorant). The only thing I didnt like was the blonde who had sex with the older man, not only was it innapropriate, but also illegal!!!! WSo, parents be aware of this if you're daughter's want to watch this movie. It has sexual content!!!! Especially if they are under age! Now, peo-ple, I am a male and also over 18 so i can watch what I want, but I'm just saying that for young girls they shouldn't watch this one!!! But we ALL can watch Ugly Betty!!!!!

Really enjoyed this!

I thought this was an excellent coming-of-age movie. Very poignant in parts. Love the soundtrack as well! These Days is an especially beautiful song.

Does It Live Up To The Book?

Yes, for the most part. It is a good film on it's own, and it does stay true to the book for the most part. Other than all the changes made to Lena's story line (her grandparents hate Kostos, instead of adore him, and Effie who is her sister in the book is nonexistent). Most of the changes benefited the movie, especially the removal of Effie; it worked for the book, but it may have been to much to include her in the movie.

The casting was done well, except for the parents. Briget's father especially seems a lot older than the book described him, and Carmen's mother isn't as pretty as she is characterized to be in the second book. The actress who played Carmen is a bit rounder than I would have expected, but the other three are perfect, especially Lena. Alexis Bledel has the perfect hesitancy that characterizes Lena, as well as the striking beauty. (Side note: Tibby was cast well also, but what is with the extra-gothed out clothes in the opening sequence? She is a rebel, not a poser.)

The extras are very interesting, especially the interview with Ann Brashares. It's always good to see that the author approves of the movie based on their book.

Not as bad as it could have been

I teased my wife to no end when she bought this so she made me watch it. To my chagrin, it didn't suck so now I must make my amends . . .

Although obviously targeted to teenage girls it deals with some mature themes in a thoughtful way. Although cheesy at times, it's a nice coming-of-age story. You don't have to be a teenage girl to like this movie, but it helps.

Tries to be cute - doesn't succeed.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants has a great storyline, talented cast, and unbelievable concept about a pair of magical pants that miracously fit four different size best friends. One is hippy, chubby, petite, and tall, so how can the pants fit each girl perfect, who the heck knows? Each of the four girls take turns sharing the good luck pants during summer vacation, each of the girls have different summer plans so the pants will keep them connected somehow. Amber Tamblyn's storyline was the most interesting but the rest of the girl's vacation stories had no depth or personal growth in my opinion. I thought this movie would move me somehow but it did not, sorry!
