Best series in the world!!

This is the best series ever. A friend recommended the first book. I had never read a romance novel in my life until them. I finished all the books in two months (16 books at the time) and am now a romance lover.

The men are wonderful!! Strong.. dominant.. and very possessive. The women are all strong willed and give the guys a run for their money!! I now find myself comparing all other vampire romances to Mrs. Feehan's Carpathians!

This story transport you to another time & place and makes it hard for you to put down the book.

Dark disappointment!

I am giving this book a 3 star status because I love the dark series and couldn't bear to give anything less. Manolito was such a powerful Carpathian and built-up into a heroic character in the Dark Celebration... and when we finally got his book "Dark Possession" he was diminished to a huge disappointment. I feel that the book has neither a beginning nor a proper ending and the two main characters were not allowed to develop into their natural roles - too many interruptions. I also feel that Feehan is introducing too many new species to the Carpathian race. Her earlier books were great because the species involved were Carpathian males and human females.

I think either Feehan is spending less time on her "treasure" that is called "Dark Series" or loosing her magic touch. Hope the next one, which I think is going to be Dominic's story, will be a good one. I loved Dark Demon and Dark Curse sounds like a prelude to the Dragon's lineage.

Not the first book I'd pick for hardcover release...

The plot of Dark Possession is pretty clear: picking up where "Dark Celebration" left off, Manuel (Manolito) De La Cruz has found his lifemate - MaryAnn Delaney - and needs to claim her in order to avoid turning into a vampire. As usual the female lifemate in the story is reluctant and finds her intended mate's machismo and controlling nature/protectiveness annoying.

Dark Possession, unlike Feehan's other novels, felt rote. There was nothing to expand on the basic plot: Manolito felt like a stock character and MaryAnn was annoying. While I can appreciate the fact that she was supposed to be fashion-conscious, she struck me more like a shallow name-dropper. D&G this, Versace that, Kors boots, etc. At other times this same woman referred to herself as an "urban bush woman".

The sexual scenes were "okay", but I have to agree with another reviewer: compared to the rest of this series, the main characters are less "real", the scenes not as hot (I ran into two pages of squick during one scene, but that's a personal preference), and even the fight scenes are, with one exception (I won't spoil it!), "okay but not great".

I hope that Ms. Feehan isn't losing steam and that this book is an aberration. Certainly, were I the publisher I would NOT have chosen Dark Possession as the first "regular" novel in the Dark series to be put out in hardback form. I suggest buying the paperback when it comes out or, if you can't wait, visiting the library.
