I do
love
this book. Don't read this book if you are looking for popcorn reading because you will be very disappointed. The book is comprised of moments, moments, moments...and reflection. It examines various aspects of love, destructive love and sensual experience. It examines sensuality as being the core of ourselves, and all forces of action as being derived from this. It examines the blurring of the lines. If you allow this book to inform you, it will.
Excellent, but not for everyone
You shouldn't read this book if you are looking for a light read. The reviewer below is correct: it is an "intellectual merry-go-round", in the sense that it makes one feel that one is reading a Platonic dialogue without knowing which voice speaks for Plato. This makes it challenging, but not a bad book. However, I disagree with the reviewers who call it dark and depressing--did they take a close look at the blossoming relationship between Ursula and Birkin? This relationship seems to be a hope, making this tale no more depressing than the legend of Pandora's box. Finally, although it seems "unreal" at first for the characters to foster such intense emotions about little things, this is in keeping with the turn-of-the-century zeitgeist and the metaphysical nature of the work. Lawrence's descriptive talent is amazing and his point is good.

One of the greatest books I have ever read
I could scarcely tell you the plot of this novel because the plot isn't important. What's important is that through the various interactions of his characters, Lawrence has probed straight to the fascinating, familiar and disturbing core of human emotion. Lawrence's writing is so beautifully, skillfully crafted (in spite of the occasional overuse of repetition) and so intimately incisive that I found myself pausing to read certain passages over and over again. This one is definately a keeper.
If you love Lawrence, read it
"
Women
in
love
" is the first Lawrence book i have read in english (all the others in my own language, italian). I think Lawrence, in this novel, more then in "The Rainbow" is at the beginning of a search that will finally bring him to "Lady Chatterley": i mean the search of i life-sens and of the knowledge of the real through the relationships between human beeings, male and female etc. I like more the conceit that emerges from the last Lawrence's books, but i appreciate in "Women In Love" some kind of "scritto giovanile".
