Just Gets Better
Author Jim Butcher deserves a round of applause for continuing to improve on his
Dresden
Files
series. With each
book
so far, Butcher has not only developed the character of Harry Dresden, Chicago's only Wizard for Hire, but the alternate universe in which he lives. This time around, Harry has to deal with the repercussions of the war he started with the vampire Red Court, but also the wizard White Council -- who are none to happy with him -- and the Sidhe (fairies, although they don't like to be called that) Queens of Winter and
Summer
. Butcher is treading a well-worn path here considering some of these same elements appear in Laurell K. Hamilton's work, but here Butcher is going for more of the mystery and politics than the sex and intrigue of Hamilton's writings, and it works. Soon, Harry finds himself pulled into the political machinations of the Summer and Winter courts while at the same time trying to fend of an otherworldly assassin and protect his skin from the White Council. The book runs along at a breakneck speed and the ending is well worth the trip. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

GREAT read!
I fell into this
book
series by accident. But once I read the first book, I was totally hooked by this great hero (?) and his motley cast of characters.
SUMMER
KNIGHT
S was no different than the first 3 books. I love Harry
Dresden
. He is not a genius, hia magic doesn't always work quite the way it should, but he is a man that cares deeply about protecting his fellow human beings from things they don't always believe exsist. In this book, Harry has to deal with things that he doesn't quite believe in. It's done with style and humor that is irresistable. It's a definite must read.

"Summer Knight" by Jim Butcher
This is my favorite so far of Mr. Butcher's '
Dresden
Files
' series. It has plenty of humor and nonstop action. I especially enjoyed the emphasize on the two faerie courts of Winter and
Summer
, and their battles for supremacy. Harry Dresden has the task of restoring the balance between the two courts before it destroys the balance in our world. This is already starting to happen on Earth, with things like raining toads. Highly recommended for pure fun.
The best Dresden title so far
Butcher's getting better as he goes, I think. If you liked the prior
book
s, you should really like this one. Harry's a bit less abused, a bit more on top of his game. Lots of scenes involving the Sidhe, all memorable and stylish and fun - including a truly epic battle to finish the book!
Dresden
Files
Book 1 was a fast read, and a lot of fun. Books 2 and 3 I also enjoyed, but they didn't have the surprise factor that the first had, and at times my attention wandered a bit. Book 4 blew 'em all away. I'm looking forward to 5!

Dresden takes on Faeries...
Harry
Dresden
isn't the same after he fights ghosts and vampires in Grave Peril. After Susan leaves town to deal with her new bouts of blood lust, Harry isolates himself from everyone and everything. He has not worked in a long time and is in danger of losing his apartment and his office, but his depression is so strong that he does not care. He hasn't even taken a shower in days! But when the White Council pays him a visit and almost decide to hand over to the vampires, Harry has no choice but to again defend his life. He also has to clean the name of a manipulative faerie who also happens to be the Queen of Air and Darkness. A faerie known as the
Summer
Knight
has been murdered, and Harry has to solve the case to both free himself from the faeries and clear his name for the White Council. There are various twists throughout the novel.
The supernatural beings in this series -- save for the teenage werewolves -- are evil to the core. The faeries, vampires and ghouls are very dark creatures -- nothing benign about these monsters! And that's what makes this series different from the ones authors Laurell K. Hamilton and Charlaine Harris write. Summer Knight is my second favorite
book
of the Dresden
Files
(my favorite thus far is Fool Moon). Harry feels like a puppet, for the faeries and the White Council want different things from him. He is more vulnerable in this installment than in the other ones, but still as self-deprecating and goofy as ever. I thought the scene where he tries to speak in Latin to the White Council was hilarious. There are more comic scenes and quips in this installment. The characters are great here, especially Billy and Murphy, and the new characters seem promising. But Michael and Susan are absent in this one. I hope that they will make a comeback soon. I am loving the Dresden Files and I cannot wait to read Death Masks soon.
