Founding Brothers

Exactly what I wanted and delivered in a timely manner. Good book.

just plain wonderful prose.

mr. ellis is one of my favorite non-fiction prose writers (up there with lytton strachey, alison weir, and nick tosches). I buy any book with his name on it, but this is my favorite. a great book about the country's founding fathers. highly recommended to anyone who loves history. kudos to the author.

The book that launched him--and well it should have

Wonderful discussion of this period. Ellis got us thinking about our origins. Well done.

Great Book

This book is an excellent book. It is a series of little stories about the founding fathers. Most of the stories occur during the constitutional convention. The author definitely did his research. He found things that are not found in other books. For example the author writes about how the Quakers and Ben Franklin tried to introduce a resolution in the first congress to outlaw slavery. The author also highlights the divisions that did exist in this country and were not really solved until the civil war. If you want to view the founding fathers in a new light, like real people you should read this book.

Short but concise

This book attempts to cover the most notable / historic highlights our founding fathers. It is a good short read but lacks any substabtial details about America's founders. The book is notably mis-labeled, they were not founding "brothers", they hated each other! Can you imagine Dick Cheney or Al Gore dueling to the death over proposed Tax increases? I think not! The founders are far from the perfect icons and images we have of them today on our currency and the marble statues we see. The book definitely has a good flow to it and is enjoyable to read, to bad it is such a short book.
