Every home in the United States should have a copy of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States. Contrary to what is often thought, given the giant reputation and high esteem of these documents, the texts are in fact quite short - the Declaration takes but a few pages, and the Constitution (even with all amendments) takes but a few more.

This book includes a brief preface by Cass R. Sunstein, an index an suggestions for further readings on the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and the founding fathers. However, what really sets this volume apart is the inclusion of a lesser-known but vital document, the text of 'A Bill for Establishing Religious Freedom' by Thomas Jefferson. This is one of the foundational documents for the separation of church and state, and a guidebook for the way Jefferson and other founding fathers were thinking in this crucial and still-relevant method of governmental action.

This is a good text, interesting, with a difference, and am important piece of history and current practice for all Americans.

I found this through buzzflash.com, who was offering it as a premium. I ordered it for a book club I run at the local library. The Constitution is the set of rules for how we govern ourselves, and it is packaged with the Declaration of Independence and one of Virginia's bills on religious liberty. This is a great little book, and you can carry it around with you at all times.

Every American should have a copy of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. The addition of Thomas Jefferson's Virginia Statute on Religious Freedom completes the collection superbly and is a timely and valuable article on what our founding documents' primary author really thought about the separation of church and state. Buy this and read it. You'll be surprised how much you didn't know. It also fits in a shirt pocket, so you can have it with you whenever you want.
