The
guide
that every parent must have! Gary Mayerson has devoted his career in law to helping
child
ren with autism get the fair and appropriate education that they need and deserve. In this
field
guide, he brings parents up to speed quickly and efficiently on the ways educational bureaucracies work?or more importantly, don?t ?for
children
with
special
needs
. In addition to providing inside information on the "must-do?s" and "must don?ts" in advocating for
your
child in the educational system, there are also strategies on how to prepare for an IEP meeting, what to do when children don?t get crucial
services
, and how to avoid due process. Armed with solid information, parents will be empowered with all of the tools they need to advocate for their child?s education. The practical and straightforward approaches presented in this must-have guide are not only applicable to children with autism spectrum disorders, but to children with any disability.

This guy knows what he's talking about....
This book is a practical
guide
that is clearly written and efficiently presented designed to help parents understand how to get the best outcome for their
child
during the IEP process. Mayerson is a nationally known
special
education lawyer who does this work because he believes in it, not because he isnt skiled at other forms of practice (he was a very successful corporate lawyer before fate led him into this
field
). He has special interest in and a history of success with autism related issues, and has gone al the way with families into the appeals process in order to defend their child's right to a free appropriate special education. I recommend this book to all my patients (I am a pediatric psyachologist) who anticipate difficulty or who just have questions about an upcoming IEP or IEP revision. It is the kind of book you can read the week before as you ready
your
self and gather your thoughts before meeting with the team.

Excellent and brief
This book is exactly what it says it will be. I've found it useful for prepping for IEPs. THe attorneys we have spoken with in person have been impressed with my understanding of the legalities of
special
ed considerations. Much of that is due to reading this book. I recommend it!
A great resource
I got this for my sister who was battleing a
school
district
who didn't offer the care my autistic nephew needed but was trying to retain him and label him with the wrong learning
needs
in order to do so. This book helped guid my sister right and now my nephew is
getting
the correct treatment.

A must read for parents with special need child
It is a concise, to-the-point, and practical presentation of information that I found extremely useful in the dealing with local
school
district
, which I found overwhelming. A good companion book of 'Wirghts Law' book, which covers the basics. Strongly recommend to read before heading for IEP meetings, since it tells you what to ask, and how to fight back specifically. It contains a good number of sample letters which may come in handy.
