Simple, safe, remedies for pregnancy, childbirth, lactation, newborns. Includes herbs for fertility and birth control. Foreword by Jeannine Parvati Baker.
A lifesaver....
I'm not well schooled in herbs or home remedies, but this
book
was a tremendous help to me during my last two pregnancies. There are not just
herbal
concoctions, but simple, common-sense solutions for everything from pain to depression to lactation issues. When I was struggling with what might have been a premature birth, I consulted this book and was able to halt my contractions, and afterwards continued a healthy, full-term pregnancy. The knowledge you'll find in these pages is priceless.

Great book
I work in a health food store and pregnant women, and women with small children ask me all the time about
herbal
advice for them- something impossible to find.(Usually at the advice of their doctor) I always remind them that I'm not a doctor and anything they do is at their own risk. That said, what I am is someone who researches herbs and vitamins constantly, and obsessively reads about the side effects and interactions of natural medicine. Because of this
book
's warnings about herbs, I have informed hundreds of pregnant women about herbs they should be careful with- saffron, parsley, etc. Susun Weed will recommend mild herbs scientifically known for their gentle effectiveness. Also, her advice tends to actually work and have the advantage of thousands of
year
s of experience concerning side effects under its' belt.(And real science- real research done by doctors/scientists- search the herbs recommended in studies done by "The Lancet" for example) Do you want to take ginger tea for your nausea or a prescription?? Well, they're both potentially dangerous-not just the herb. And that's a fact-yeah, herbs can kill you-everyone knows this-and so can drugs-so people should educate themselves about the side effects of EVERYTHING they put into their bodies. When a doctor says a drug is "safe", they don't mean harmless, they mean that the good outweighs the bad or the drug is "relatively safe'. Eating licorice everyday is dangerous...saffron could kill you...

rarely found treasure
It is hard to find some sound documents in English about herbs in this topic. TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) uses herbs and acupuncture to treat patients. To get some knowledge about ancient solution that has been proved over thousands of
year
s, it is not easy. Thanks to the author, some general information about herbs is revealed in this
book
. Can not wait to see her other books.
read it over and over while pregnant
this
book
was the most important tool getting through my first pregnancy. i took raspberry leaf throughout my pregnancy, then squaw vine and cramp bark in my last month. i had a 3 1/2 hour labor with no drugs or procedures! my little girl was so healthy and alert! i don't just say this because i foolishly read the book and tried it with no education to back it up, i am horticulturist and
herbal
ist with 10
year
s experience. she recommends helpful, healing herbs for pregnancy with great descriptions, dosages, and warnings. as always, do what is comfortable for you but this book can really help if you are looking for a natural childbirth and child-rearing. just make sure you do your research before trying anything, having several opinions can be comforting. i buy a copy for everyone i know is pregnant!

A complete book
I am so impressed with this
book
! It is very complete. There are herbs for every aspect of a pregnant
woman
's life. Many of the remedies are also good for everyone. There are herbs for fertility, birth control, morning sickness, cramps, mood changes, bladder infections...and the list goes on. They even tell you how to make your own tinctures. Job well done!!
