This book contains writings in Spanish about universal topics of importance and interest, such as abortion, capital punishment, and euthanasia. It can provide thought-provoking and interesting reading, as well as helping the Spanish-as-a-second-language readers learn to think in Spanish, not mentally translate to and from English. Completely written in Spanish, this book covers such universally interesting topics as marriage, abortion, euthanasia, suicide, smoking, capital punishment, and more. It also contains vocabulary explanations in Spanish. Designed to promote readers to not only read Spanish, but to think in Spanish, this book is useful for employees in companies where a working knowledge of conversational Spanish is necessary.

Good for Vocab. but Lacking in Grammar Review
This book is good for vocab. acquisition but that's about it. With topics such as abortion, suicide, capital punishment, religion, immigration, and othes you might ask yourself how you could go wrong. Well basically, the problem that I have with this book is that the level of difficulty of the grammatical reviews are about as challenging as a middle school spanish class. Although the authors did a good job of covering topics that normally present non-native speakers with problems, the grammatical reviews are simply a joke. Oftentimes the excersises merely ask the student to choose between two possible answers or to choose from a word bank which eliminates any chance of engaging in critical thinking or, more importantly, learning anything. Also, the explinations of concepts are very short and only provide 1 or 2 examples to illustrate concepts. This became irritating after it became apparent that the excersises were redundant, and my professor even started making her own excersises to compensate for what the book lacked. On the bright side, however, the accompanying vocabulary is good as it provides a plethora of new words in every chapter that pertain to the topic at hand. Although this book is best suited for conversation classes, I still would have liked there to be an accompanying workbook to cover the grammatical review in more detail.
