At the age of nine,
Cynthia
Ann
Parker
was captured in an Indian raid and taken to live as a slave with the Comanche. Twenty-four years later, she is the wife of a chief and the mother of a young warrior destined to become the great chief Quanah Parker. But in 1861 Cynthia Ann Parker and her infant daughter are recaptured, and returned against their will to a white settlement. ?A skillful examination of how individual identity is determined by cultural and social structures, and of what happens when these are drastically altered.?--Kirkus Reviews

Cynthia Ann Parker has always fascinated me and her life was hard.
This is a wonderful book about the little white girl taken by Indians in central Texas at age 10. She was later married to Indian Chief and bore 3 children. One of her sons was Quanah
Parker
, famous in his own right.
Don't miss this account of her life. I could not put it down until I had finished reading it.
Where the Broken Heart Still Beats, the story of Cynthia Ann Parker
Book arrived quickly and in new condition. Its a good book and easily read by younger readers.
Where The Broken Heart Still Beats
Well writen and informative. Makes ones
heart
blead for our Native Americans and leaves a sour taste for the christen morals.
A well written, quick read of historical fiction
I enjoyed this book, but did not realize until I finished that it was a work of historical juvenile fiction. It is well written and truly gives the reader an idea of what it may have been like during those times.
As I am engaged in genealogy research, I had purchased two other books with this one. (I am
still
reading them.) Initially, I wasn't sure if I would keep this book, but have decided to so that my descendants may get a flavor of what their distant ancestors lived like.
I would certainly suggest it for middle school readers as it may pique their interest in hi
story
and a desire to learn more about their background and thereby know more about themselves.

accounts in history
Although this book is geared for a middle school reader, I enjoyed it because of the authenticity and it gave a picture as of the life of a white Indian captive, and then years later being released back to civilization. Emotions were strong; love and loneliness, also loyalty, devotion.
