Nothing matches Lora Leigh?s latest entry in the series about genetically altered Breeds with feline DNA?and the humans who awaken their desire.

Someone has been slipping the Sanctuary?s secure information to a pharmaceutical company. Now it?s up to Ria Rodriguez to pose as a clerk and uncover the leak. Yet she has no idea of the danger she?s about to encounter?or the passion she?s about to ignite in one of the greatest Breeds ever created.

Explosive edition of The Breeds saga!

There is a leak at Sanctuary. Top-secret information is finding its way into the enemy's hands all too frequently. It is Ria Rodriguez's job to stop it.

Posing as an auditor, she uses her position to track the unknown traitor in hopes of trapping him or her. The mission should be easy for someone with Ria's skills, but she never counted on finding herself the focus of one sexy Breed male's attention while at Sanctuary.

Mercury's mate died tragically years ago. A Breed only has one mate, so why does he feel this irresistible pull to Ria Rodriguez? If he didn't know better he would say it was the beginning of Mating Heat...

For years, fans of Lora Leigh's popular THE BREEDS series have known that beloved Enforcer Mercury's mate died years earlier in the labs where they were created and held captive. Knowing he was doomed to a life without a mate of his own, our hearts have bled for him.

So how does he have his own story? Ah, that would be one major spoiler, but suffice it to say that the author found a way to write his story in a way that is more than satisfying and very believable. Oh yeah, and it came with quite a few "Omigosh!" moments along the way too. *grin*

I'd be pretty darn jealous of Ria if I didn't like her so much. This heroine is just what Mercury needs. She's strong, capable, sexy, and has a knack for pressing his buttons.

Mercury is just as perfect a complement for Ria. His relentless sexuality brings Ria out of her safe little shell and forces her to embrace the woman inside herself.

The story definitely belongs to Mercury and Ria, but Lora Leigh drops some tidbits about other characters along the way, revealing some long-buried secrets that will have readers salivating for those characters' stories.

MERCURY'S WAR is an emotionally-charged love story full of action, suspense, and some scorching sex scenes worthy of THE BREEDS series.

Sinfully good and wonderfully satisfying.

Mercury's War by Lora Leigh
Mass paperback release date: October 7th, 2008
Rating 5 stars

Lora Leigh latest Breed installment is one not to be missed! I cannot express the joy and sheer heart-pounding pleasure I experienced reading this book. What makes this book different was the sincere and touching interaction between the 2 main characters.

Mercury Warrant is a genetically engineered Breed without a mate. His one and only mate died and as a result he violently killed those responsible. To control his aggressive rage, Mercury was drugged. Since then the ferocity of his animal nature has not returned. Mercury now lives without living. That is until Ria comes to Sanctuary. Although Mercury is assigned as her bodyguard he can't seem to keep himself from her delectable body.

Ria's assignment does not include falling for hunky Mercury. Passed experience has left her with a guarded heart, but she can't help the overpowering and frightening emotions he invokes in her. When she finally takes the steps toward trusting Mercury, her confidence is met by the sudden appearance of Mercury's `dead' mate.

This book has an absorbing plot and enough drama to keep you hooked. Lora Leigh has created very dynamic characters that seem strong on the surface but are deeply wounded. What makes this book so meaningful is each finds salvation in the other as well as the ability to appreciate their genuine strength. The moments between Ria and Mercury are incredibly touching. Ria is a spectacularly strong woman who holds no bars when it comes to her friends and business, but lacks the ability to defend her personal worth. Mercury sees, from the beginning, Ria's beauty and pushes her to see it too. Again and again he shows Ria how much he cares and it was fascinating to see the masculine and stoic Mercury take Ria out shopping for a make-over. In turn, Ria forces Mercury to find his true nature. This book was like having your cake and savoring every delicious bite, too! Sinfully good and wonderfully satisfying.

Damn (Oops!) This book was so wonderful

Wow!I have re-accessed myself again. I still love Z (BDB), but Mercury is so mouth-watering. Wow! This book was absolutely wonderful. I could barely put this book down. Mercury is the ALPHA. An I loved Ria's Bi**hiness. The morning coffee scene was hilarious. I loved both characters. Very well rounded. Who the heck is Alaina's mate. Darn Ms. Leigh, you love to leave us hanging. An is Ely Jonas's mate? I can't handle this waiting. Dawn's Awakening was absolutely fabulous, and this book was just as exciting, engrossing, sexy, sensuous, and eye-opening. I am looking forward to Dane's book and the rest of the Enforcers. Bravo, Bravo, Bravo Ms. Leigh. No one compares to you! (Except maybe, Christine Feehan, Pamela Clare and JR Ward) (Sometimes Sherilyn Kenyon). However, right now, you rule. The Breeds, the Elite Ops and the Navy Seals Rule the World of Reading. Go Get them.

Superior In Every Way

To create fascinating conflict on many levels, maintain a future interest in the series as well as tell a darn outstanding story is a remarkable accomplishment. This author is superior in plotting, character, setting and--holy cow!!!--terrific sensuality. This book pulls you in and just when you think it's another typical paranormal--whammy!--a great plot twist or character spin. My only caution is it's not really a stand alone book in the series because there is a lot of world building and richness that would be missed if you started here. However, you could do MUCH worse than this terrific book!

Delicious!

When I read the original three Feline Breeds books, the main problem I noted was that they were definitely romance/erotica books, and the paranormal/sci-fi aspects were absolutely secondary. It was a case of "don't look at the man behind the curtain"---the whole genetic manipulation, mating thing was handled in a rather silly manner. But the sex was so hot, it didn't tend to matter as long as that was what you were there for.

Now, however---while this is still the bio-thriller equivalent of space opera, which is to say that it's what many like to call "science fantasy"---it's handled in a much smoother manner, as an integral part of the enjoyable plot rather than as hand-wavy background to sex scenes. Leigh has obviously been learning, and learning well.

This type of book does have a somewhat limited audience; you need to be a fan of science fantasy, absolutely explicit erotica, romance, and, to be more precise, weird erotica/romance. After all, one of the partners isn't exactly human. One thing I enjoyed about this book is that Leigh explores the boundaries between the physical mating process of her Breeds and the emotion of love. She delves into whether her characters have choices in what they do, and to what extent, and whether they only have one pre-destined mate. It's definitely a step or two farther than most authors take this sort of plot, and I applaud it.

Finally, I really enjoyed the characters, particularly Ria. While I saw some "surprises" coming, others caught me off-guard, which I always enjoy. The tensions between Ria and Mercury make sense, and are wonderful to explore. On the whole, this is a fantastic continuation of the Feline Breeds series.
