Not quite Father John O'Maley and Vicki Holden
I am a long-time fan of the Windy River Reservation mystery series, and I was a bit disappointed when I got this book to see that it's about a different heroine. But Coel can write, and she sprinkles such fascinating native and Arapaho history in her books, so I decided to read it. I enjoyed the book, but it didn't grip me like Father John. Catherine McLeod, I think, will grow into an interesting heroine, but I missed the heart-stopping suspense of Coel's well-known series. I missed the practicalness of Father John. Catherine is not that, not by a long shot. She's very impulsive, and does things without much thought. That is a bit off-putting when she is supposedly running for her life as she is in this book. Not sure yet whether I will read more of her or not, but I can assure you that I will devour the next Father John mystery that comes out.

Disappointment
Sorry to say but this book was a big disappointment to me. I was looking forward to Father O'Malley and Vicky Holden, it seems this book is more political regarding Indian casino's and land rights, I know this is very important to the Indian Nation but it's not a book you can get lost in. Please Ms. Coel don't quit writing about The Wind River Reservation!!!
Good book, but still disappointed.
I have been a long time fan of Margaret Coel. I was really excited when I found out that there was a new book coming out. I have spent a lot of time in Lander and Riverton, and the characters in her books have seemed like family. The story for
Blood
Memory
was pretty good, but I have to admit that I was very disappointed that my favorite characters were not in this book. (Except for one very small cameo from Vicky Holden) I really missed the usual detective work with Vicky and Father O' Malley. That said, Mrs. Coel does deliver a good mystery, with some good suspense moments. It does drag in a few spots, but I believe the ending makes up for that.
