Own
Your
Own
Corporation
reveals how private citizens can take advantage of incorporating
them
selves and
their
business to save thousands of dollars in taxes and protect themselves against financial disaster.
This Book Should Cost More Because The Information Is So Valuable
I can't begin to tell you the value of this book. I read it for the first time the year it was published (around 2001) and consider it to be a basic cornerstone of what I now know and understand about
own
ing and operating a small business.
After reading this book I had to ask myself
why
anyone would rob a bank or lie on
their
income tax returns, when the IRS makes it so easy to play by a set of established rules that are both ethical and legal. The difference is that there is one set of tax rules for the individual taxpayer and a second set for the business owner.
All you have to do is follow the rules and make sure that you seek out competent professional financial advice. Even before I put some of the ideas into practice for my own life, I had explained the details of the book to a friend whose husband was a self-employed sign painter.
The drone at *&R ***** who did their taxes every year insisted that these were illegal deductions that would result in an audit and penalties from the IRS. My friends decided to take my advice and they looked for a more qualified tax preparer - a CPA who was able to help
them
qualify for many of the tax deductions, write-offs and credits that were described in this book and he knew even more perfectly legal tax-filing tricks that are common knowledge among the wealthy.
That's what I like most about this book: the authors aren't telling you lies that will get you free room and board at Club Fed. Tax avoidance and cheating is against the law and there are no magic pills you can swallow to become tax exempt. Every American with income has a financial obligation to the IRS, but this book explains how it is possible to lessen that burden, legally and without even doing anything all that remarkable. It's just not obvious until someone explains it to you in a way that this book does, in plain English.
However I would agree with another Amazon reviewer: the information about taking a company public is beyond the needs of most readers and could have been greatly condensed into a few pages.

Informative and Logical
As a general practitioner, not a specialist in asset planning but nevertheless having to advise clients with business concerns and real estate interests, this book is the best on the subject that I've come across. It's actually more informative and logical than bar association materials I've referenced in the past.
Very good book, but...
I
own
this book - I have for years. It is a very good book and interesting to read (which is something not all business books are).
What I don't like and what completly sucks are all of the shill reviews on here obviously placed by the publisher, author, or agents giving it five-star ratings and saying stupid things like "Thanks to Garrett, I now look towards the future with... etc. blah blah blah".
It is a good book for this topic - and stands on its own. It is really seriously lame that they felt the need to support it in this disingenuous manner.
